My Review

Let me just admit that I’m a Marcus fan. So there’s that. For those that read, would understand how I feel. I won’t say anything for spoilers.
The story was pretty slow. And unfortunately, that meant that it was an easy read to put down and forget. Thus I really wasn’t excited to read this one and not only because of the romance part of the book. A book doesn’t need romance for me to like it. Nor does a love situation have to go my way for me to love it. Hell I was team Gage (I think that was his name) in the Hunger Games and I gave each book in the series five stars I believe. It just wasn’t all that good of a plot/storyline.
And the ending to the story didn’t inspire me to hunger for the next book. I will read it though. Would I recommend this book? The jury is still out.
I will say I like Nick. I’m not for Angel’s baby zombie, Phillip, though and I’m glad how things worked out there in the book.
Audio Review
Allison McLemore did a really good job at narration. She makes me believe the characters are real.
Anyway, who is my book boyfriend… Nick I guess.

Book Summary

Freeing Her (A Hart Brothers Novel, Book 1)

• This novel contains mature content and it not intended for younger readers.

This is the beginning of a story... the story of two people who were meant to be together. Why? Because unknown to them, they shared terrifying pasts and the cruel circumstances of their births doomed both of them to a life of hell.

Two strangers ... one night ... one accidental meeting that changed their lives forever.

Gabriella Martinelli, Manhattan psychiatrist had only one goal in life—to help abuse victims avoid the horrors she’d experienced herself. She worked late, volunteered, and donated her services to anyone who needed them. Life was good ... until her nightmare resurfaced. He found her, and began stalking her, and she knew he wouldn’t stop until he destroyed every ragged piece of her.

Kolson Hart, Manhattan’s most eligible bachelor, was ruled by his dark past. He liked control, from the boardroom to the bedroom and didn’t care to be involved with someone whose life was just as screwed up as his was. But one look at Gabriella short-circuited everything. Want ... desire ... need ... will sometimes drive a man to do things he swore he never would.

He freed her from a life of fear ... When he couldn’t even save himself.

My Review

I love mystery, crime, thrillers, and police procedurals. While this book doesn’t really fit the total of any of those categories, we do get a taste of each. In the end, this book is an erotic romance. There is angst, steaminess and an alpha male. But there are also many secrets to keep you intrigued.
As the title suggest, this story is more about Gabby and what’s she’s going through. And as promised, this book delivers in finding a resolution to her story arc. So there won’t be disappointment there.
What the story hints at is Kolson’s history. Although he’s a developed character, there are hints there is more to him than meets the eye. I’m looking forward to his story, Freeing Him, which is expected to be released next month. So there is no need to wait in reading this one because dare I say there is a HEA here.
Anyway, if you like your romance with spice and a bit of mystery, this one is for you. Don’t wait. Go pick it up.
My book boyfriend is Kolson.

Insurmountable by T.E. White

(Five WTF Hearts)
Book Summary
This isn’t some happy love story. If you want that, try something else. No, I own this nightmare and would have never guessed it could have happened to me.

My life is painstakingly puzzled out. And if I have to admit it, I fall for Red the first time I see her. In fact, she is the first of many things for me and maybe my last. She is the reflection of my happiness and the beginning to my end. She is the stain that covers my heart in the color of her blood-red hair.

Thoughts of her consume me and continue to bombard my mind like ricochet gunfire. So what can possibly go wrong, you wonder? A humorous chuckle escapes me, in case you didn’t hear it. Yeah, I can tell you, but you will judge me unfairly. This you need to hear from the beginning, so you know all the facts and feel what I felt. Maybe even sympathize and not give me your scorn. Then maybe you can possibly… possibly comprehend the enormity of my crossroads.

You have to know I never planned or meant for any of this. It isn’t my fault. It’s someone else’s sins that have efficiently destroyed my life in one fell swoop. My name?

My name is Tade Astor and happiness for me is insurmountable.
My Review
I wouldn’t say this book is dark, but it deals with a sensitive subject matter. I’m not sure if that’s the best description but it’s what I’ve got. If you are faint of heart, this story isn’t for you. There is a WTF moment that will either put you off or give you pause (a thought provoking moment).
This book is told entirely from the guy’s POV. For me, it’s an interesting switch up. I’m not sure if it would have been as interesting if told from hers.
Tade is the typical, rich, handsome, playboy type. And our heroine is the typical shy girl with not a lot of experience and some heartache. The setting is college and that’s where the story of boy meets girl in a typical love story ends.
This story will fool you about what the twist is, but don’t count on it. To say it’s different is an understatement. I can’t say more because it would spoil it for you. You have to read blind to get the full enjoyment.
Anyway, it was a pleasurable read especially because of the uniqueness.
My book boyfriend is Tade.

The Book of Life (All Souls Trilogy #3) by Deborah Harkness

The Book of Life (All Souls Trilogy #3) by Deborah Harkness

This is a paranormal fantasy novel (rated NC-17)

  ♥♥♥♥♥
(Five Perfect Hearts)

Book Summary

The highly anticipated finale to the #1 New York Times bestselling trilogy that began with A Discovery of Witches

After traveling through time in Shadow of Night, the second book in Deborah Harkness’s enchanting series, historian and witch Diana Bishop and vampire scientist Matthew Clairmont return to the present to face new crises and old enemies. At Matthew’s ancestral home at Sept-Tours, they reunite with the cast of characters from A Discovery of Witches—with one significant exception. But the real threat to their future has yet to be revealed, and when it is, the search for Ashmole 782 and its missing pages takes on even more urgency. In the trilogy’s final volume, Harkness deepens her themes of power and passion, family and caring, past deeds and their present consequences. In ancestral homes and university laboratories, using ancient knowledge and modern science, from the hills of the Auvergne to the palaces of Venice and beyond, the couple at last learn what the witches discovered so many centuries ago.

With more than one million copies sold in the United States and appearing in thirty-eight foreign editions, A Discovery of Witches and Shadow of Night have landed on all of the major bestseller lists and garnered rave reviews from countless publications. Eagerly awaited by Harkness’s legion of fans, The Book of Life brings this superbly written series to a deeply satisfying close.

My Review

I love math, history and science. And although I’m an avid reader, I wouldn’t call myself a scholar of literature. Thus, when a story details Dante (haha if you can guess what books to which I refer), I can appreciate but I’m not necessarily wooed. This story is a mass of history and science whether real or imagined. And it stroked my analytical brain.
You can just tell when an author takes the time to research or has an affinity with their subject as they bring it to life on the pages of a book. Deborah Harkness has just found a new fan. I will read anything she writes (until such time as she disappoints me, lol).
I will admit I was frustrated in the beginning of this book. She doesn’t give much of a back story which normally I appreciate. But after two years waiting since the last book and hundreds of books read on my part in between, I didn’t remember much. However, the further I got in, she did remind us of the back story along the way. It didn’t matter because I was caught in the spider web of words that filled my imagination like a movie.
This story had everything, character development, solid plot, mystery and intrigue. There was romance, even steamy hot romance along with heart ache and angst. There were highs and lows and everything in between. I sat on the edge of my seat and waited with bated breath.
Most of all, where the story could have ended and a summary of events given to push us to the end, this author took her time. She gave us an ending to a series that wasn’t rushed but flushed out. And dare I hope, she gave us a somewhat open ending that could mean future books without leaving us without unanswered questions.
Although this is a prime example of how best to end a series, Yes, Ms. Harkness, I would love to read more.
Overall, if you haven’t read this series, it’s a must. It’s a treasure. And I would love to see this story come to life in a TV series or in multiple movies. It’s too much only for one.
Audio Review
Jennifer Ikeda is one of the best narrators I’ve listened to. With a huge cast of characters, she managed to give the major players of which there were many, a unique voice. This made it easy to follow and know who was talking when the author didn’t use dialogue tags. She did male/female along with multiple accents with practice ease. It was outstanding.
My book boyfriend is Matthew.

My Review

I love drama in my love stories. And the last book ended on a cliffy that had me buying this book right away. Thank goodness it was available. I believe that this couple story is told between two books that are available, so no need to wait for this one.
I love the strength that Emma showed in this book. She wasn’t whinny and she stuck to her guns. Aidan had a lot to do in this book to earn his book boyfriend status, but it was well worth the journey to get there.
I’ve read a lot of books. And not often I’m surprised. The premise of this series intrigued me and held my attention throughout. I’m sorry I waited so long to read this one.  I look forward to more books by this author.

Book Summary

With her thirtieth birthday looming, Emma Harrison finds her biological clock clanging and the elusive knight in shining armor yet to appear. She’s running out of options, especially after her gay best friend backs out from being her sperm donor. Of course, there’s always a sperm bank, but Emma fears a donor mix-up might impregnate her with the spawn of Satan.

Resident company womanizer, Aidan Fitzgerald, is used to always getting what he wants, especially in the bedroom. When Emma spurns his advances at the company Christmas party, he's determined to have her no matter what it takes. After Aidan learns of Emma's predicament, he is quick to offer a proposition that will benefit them both. He will father Emma's child, but she must conceive it with him naturally. Not one for hook-ups or casual sex, Emma is reluctant to take him up on his offer, but his charm, coupled with her intense desire for motherhood, wins out.

Soon their baby-making sessions become more than just physical. Aidan can't seem to walk away from her while Emma begins to wonder if Aidan could be the one. But can Aidan leave his past behind to become the man Emma needs him to be?

My Review

I’ll be honest and say the first bit of the story I wanted to slap Emma for being stupid. Thank goodness the author didn’t leave her like that. She had a support system of friends that gave her the hard truth and that took some of the sting out of watching her make a fool of herself.
Luckily, all that ended early and Emma starting acting smarter. Aidan on the other hand surprised me and I won’t say how for fear of spoilers.
Overall, the book snagged me by my heels and wouldn’t let go. Because of a minor cliffy, I’m moving on to book two right away. Thank goodness it’s out and I think it’s the end to this couples story. So you don’t have to wait on reading this one.
