Rouge (Brook Street #3) by Ava March

Rogues (Brook Street #3) ~ Ava March

This is a m/m historical fiction romance novella (Rated NC-17 for the sexiness of it all)

5 out of 5 stars

Book Summary

Two of London's most notorious rakehells, Linus Radcliffe and Robert Anderson, are the best of friends. They share almost everything-clothes, servants, their homes, and even each other's bed on occasion. The one thing they don't share: lovers. For while Linus prefers men, Robert prefers women...except when it comes to Linus.

As another Season nears its end, Robert can't ignore his growing jealousy. He hates watching Linus disappear from balls to dally with other men. Women are lovely, but Linus rouses feelings he's never felt with another. Unwilling to share his gorgeous friend another night, Robert has a proposition for Linus.

A proposition Linus flatly refuses-but not for the reasons Robert thinks. Still, Robert won't take no for an answer. He sets out to prove a thing or two to his best friend-yet will learn something about the heart himself.

My Review

After reading the first in the series, I had to read this one. I was captivated by it and drawn in from page one. This is the shortest of the three I believe. These are novellas in length. But yet, you don’t feel like you’re missing any part of the story once you’re done. You simply want more because it’s that good.

Ava just has a way with this series and these characters. I could feel them through the pages like I was there. She flushes out her character very well and makes them more than one dimensional. They each have their way about them.

Okay, so I’m gushing. This was book three and I didn’t know it. But it’s the kind of series that you don’t absolutely have to read in order.

My book boyfriend, Rob. (I couldn't resist this picture, not 1822 like.  Forgive me.)

Thief (Brook Street #1) by Ava March

Thief (Brook Street #1) ~ Ava March

This is an adult m/m romance novella (Rated NC-17)

5 out of 5 stars

Book Summary

London, 1822 ... It was only supposed to be one night. One night to determine once and for all if he truly preferred men. But the last thing Lord Benjamin Parker expected to find in a questionable gambling hell is a gorgeous young man who steals his heart.

It was only supposed to be a job. Cavin Fox has done it many times — select a prime mark, distract him with lust, and leave his pockets empty. Yet when Cavin slips away under the cover of darkness, the only part of Benjamin he leaves untouched is his pockets.

With a taste of his fantasies fulfilled, Benjamin wants more than one night with Cavin. But convincing the elusive young man to give them a chance proves difficult. Living with a band of thieves in the worst area of London, Cavin knows there's no place for him in a gentleman's life. Yet Benjamin isn't about to let Cavin—and love—continue to slip away from him.

My Review

How much did I enjoy this book, let me count the ways. I’m not much of a historical fiction reader despite the fact that I love history. But I took a chance on this story and I don’t regret it. The writing was wonderful and felt authentic in the time period at least to my novice eyes. The story was rich despite its length.

The characters were great. Benjamin trying to find his way in his romantic life. Cavin was just trying to make a way. Somehow these two find each other and it’s not all bells and whistles from there. Things aren’t easy which makes for a great story. I couldn’t help rooting for both of them to succeed.

The story was so well written I was lost in 1822 filled with the textures and smells of the time period. Caught up in the majesty of the romance, wishing I was lucky enough to have love like that.

Anyway, I really enjoyed it. For those m/m romance lovers, give this one a try. I think you will really like it.

My book boyfriend, well, I liked to have both. But I will settle for Cavin. (Excuse the unauthentic clothing for the time period).

A Modern Love Story by Jolyn Palliata

A Modern Love Story ~ Jolyn Palliata

An adult contemporary romance novel (Rated NC-17 for the sexiness of it all)

4 out of 5 stars

Book Summary

After the death of her parents, Robbie Byrne is put in foster care where she meets her exact opposite, Luc Cintrone. Abandoned as a small child, Luc is a foul-mouthed rebel who takes it upon himself to be her defender, whether she likes it or not. As they grow up, they fumble through their different roles in each other's lives—family, confidants and then, ultimately, lovers.

Just as the couple is settling into their newfound relationship, they encounter a beautiful lawyer, Payten, who is immediately taken by Luc's rough edges. But he denies her, making him absolutely irresistible in her eyes. Payten is a woman who has grown accustomed in her privileged life in obtaining whatever she wants, no matter the cost or sacrifice. And she is fairly confident Luc will eventually see things her way…one way or another.

My Review

Where to begin this one. This story has mixed reviews and after reading this I can understand why. You’re either going to love it or hate it. For me, there was a lot to love and a lot to hate.

And here are the reason why. Why did I love it? Well, the characters are compelling. Especially Lucien. I was drawn into him. I couldn’t get enough. While reading, I kept turning the pages to find the happiness I wanted for him. I won’t tell you how long it took and no it wasn’t the t the entire book. Anyway, you’ll just have to read to see for yourself. ;-)

What I hated? I wasn’t a fan of the chopping writing style. By this I mean the chapters that ended on cliffhangers not really resolved. There would be a passage of time and a summary explaination on occasion, but for me the flow left me feeling a bit off at times.  I understood the authors need to progress time, but I wish each time period was fully explored before moving on. But that’s just me. The other thing was misunderstanding. I hate when I know both points of view and therefore I see that if the characters would be honest with each other, there wouldn’t be unhappiness. That’s a personal reading choice. In the end, it had to be there or there wouldn’t be a story. But I didn’t have to like it.

Overall, I still really enjoyed this story to the bitter end. I could tell you the movie it reminds me of, but I won’t. It would give too much away. It is worth a read. And I hope the title doesn’t hold true. I hope modern day love stories don’t read like this one, lol.

Poughkeepsie by Debra Anastasia

Poughkeepsie ~ Debra Anastasia

This is an adult romance novel (Rated NC-17 for the sexiness of it all)

4.5 out of 5 stars

Book Summary

He counts her smiles every day and night at the train station. And morning and evening, the beautiful commuter acknowledges him—just like she does everyone else on the platform. But Blake Hartt is not like the others . . . he’s homeless. Memories of a broken childhood have robbed him of peace and twisted delusions into his soul. He stays secluded from the sun, sure the world would run from him in the harsh light of day.

Each day, Livia McHugh smiles politely and acknowledges her fellow commuters as she waits for the train to the city. She dismisses this kindness as nothing special, just like her. She’s the same as a million other girls—certainly no one to be cherished. But special or not, she smiles every day, never imagining that someone would rely on the simple gesture as if it were air to breathe.

When the moment comes that Livia must do more than smile, without hesitation she steps into the fray to defend the homeless man. And she's surprised to discover an inexplicable connection with her new friend. After danger subsides, their smiles become conversation. Their words usher in a friendship, which awakens something in each of them. But it’s not long before their bond must prove its strength. Entanglements from the past challenge both their love and their lives.

Blake’s heart beats for Livia’s, even if her hands have to keep its rhythm. Love is patient. Love is kind. Love never fails. Love never fails, right?

In an interwoven tale of unlikely loves and relationships forged by fire, Debra Anastasia takes readers into the darkest corners of human existence, only to show them the radiant power of pure adoration and true sacrifice. Complicated families and confused souls find their way to light in this novel, which manages to be racy, profane, funny, and reverent all at once.

My Review

What a well crafted tale. A story within stories within stories. This is the kind of book that makes you think and want to be a better person because of it.

Okay, let’s begin. The characters are many but they are well crafted and thought out. Each has their own back story which fits in perfectly into the puzzle that is this story. The author doesn’t rush the tale and it shows in how well everything works. With the exception of Beckett, I do wonder how the brothers are so gifted in the love making department. I just didn’t understand when they ever, you know. But I’ll let that be. The story was so good, I let that go.

The plotline. This story is not a simple romance. There are center characters but the supporting cast plays a large part in it all. Despite it all, it doesn’t seem contrived at all. It just works. I don’t want to give anything away, but there are times to laugh, cry and bask in the sunlight.

Do I recommend? YES! Please read this one. There are a few steamy scenes, but sex is hardly the main part of the story.

My book boyfriend, well, that is hard. There are so many guys to love in this story for varying reasons. But I have to go with BLAKE. I think I’m in love again. (excuse the missing green eyes).  The second picture is one that reminds me so much of the book.

Blood Bound (Unbound, #1) by Rachel Vincent

Blood Bound ~ Rachel Vincent

An adult paranormal urban fantasy novel (Rate - NC-17 for the sexiness of it all)

5 out of 5 stars

Book Summary

Bound by blood, condemned by fate

As a bloodtracker, Liv is extremely powerful. And in a world where power is a commodity that can get you killed, Liv's learnt to survive by her own rules.

Rule number one? Trust no one.

But when a friend's daughter goes missing, Liv is bound by a potent magical oath. She can't rest until the child is safe. And that means trusting her dangerous ex, Cam.

A sinister prophecy tells that she and Cam will be the death of each other, yet Liv's tired of being a slave to destiny. She's ready to play the forces controlling her world at their own game.

No matter what the cost.

My Review

Rachel Vincent has always been one of my favorite authors. Somewhere I read that this series didn’t have romance and I avoided reading this book for the longest time. Which didn’t make a whole lot of sense because I don’t need romance to enjoy a story. Anyway, my fault.

Now, this story has it all. It has action, mystery, romance and great writing. The world building is new and different and exciting to read. At certain points I got really emotional with one of the characters but by the end, I was rooting for that very character.

Told from two different points of view, this story is very original and worth a read. Despite my personal views about people withholding the truth, therefore causing conflict, it didn’t bother me as much in this story because romance wasn’t the main focus.

********SPOILER********
One note, I didn’t like Ana at all. She was a crappy friend. She compels her friend to hunt down her husband’s friend and kill him. Who does that? Okay, the hunting him down part okay. But if Liv isn’t a killer why compel her to do something illegal and against her principals. This same friend slept with her would be future husband.. This friend sucks and if not for the child, I wouldn’t do anything for her or care. But that’s me.
******End of SPOILER*****

Overall, do I recommend. Yes, it is really a good story.

Audio Review
Gabra Zackman does a wonderful job with this story. Her vocal range does an amazing job discerning all characters and accents. Male and female alike sound natural. I look forward to listening to more stories she narrates.

Deadlocked (Sookie Stackhouse #12) by Charlaine_Harris

Deadlocked ~ Charlaine Harris

This is an audlt paranormal romance novel. (Rate PG-17 for the lack of sexiness, lol)

2.5 out of 5 stars

Book Summary
With Felipe de Castro, the Vampire King of Louisiana (and Arkansas and Nevada), in town, it’s the worst possible time for a body to show up in Eric Northman’s front yard—especially the body of a woman whose blood he just drank.

Now, it’s up to Sookie and Bill, the official Area Five investigator, to solve the murder. Sookie thinks that, at least this time, the dead girl’s fate has nothing to do with her. But she is wrong. She has an enemy, one far more devious than she would ever suspect, who’s out to make Sookie’s world come crashing down.

My Review

First let me say that the book summary is misleading.  It makes it seem like a lot more than what the story really is.

This story reads like a day in the life of Sookie Stakehouse. Even though there is more than one day in this story, literally nothing much happens. She eats, sleeps, and goes to work. There are a few tangles in the story, but nothing like in the past. Her life is never really in danger. She doesn’t have any relations with anyone. It’s pretty sad.

I don’t need sex in a book to like it. But when you go to the store to buy a snickers bar, you expect there to be nuts in it. I mean that’s what you pay for right. No nuts in this book, lol.

Add to that, that the story drags on as the author gives mini HEA’s to all the various characters. It almost felt like the end of the series. And in a way, I wish it was. Ugh! Utter disappointment.

For those that love Sookie, I say wait to read this book until the next one comes out. Hopefully it will be better. That way you can take your disappointment into what hopefully will be a better book.
Too bad.

Audio Review
Johanna Parker does an excellent job as usual with this series. She saves this story with her narration. She makes this book bearable to listen to.

The Scorpio Races ~ Maggie Stiefvater
This is a young adult fiction (Rated PG)
5 out of 5 stars

Book Summary

It happens at the start of every November: the Scorpio Races. Riders attempt to keep hold of their water horses long enough to make it to the finish line. Some riders live. Others die.

At age nineteen, Sean Kendrick is the returning champion. He is a young man of few words, and if he has any fears, he keeps them buried deep, where no one else can see them.

Puck Connolly is different. She never meant to ride in the Scorpio Races. But fate hasn’t given her much of a chance. So she enters the competition — the first girl ever to do so. She is in no way prepared for what is going to happen.

My Review

This book is like a slow-cooked stew. There is no rushing the pace. It moves slow and steady, but that is what the story requires. Some books can be annoying when they move slow because you are anticipating something to happen. Here, never once did I wish for the story to leap on. I enjoyed the pace and the wonderful writing that went along with it.

Maggie has done an amazing job of world building. You feel right at home in fictional Thisby. You can taste the salt from the sea as you stand on the beach. More importantly, you feel for the characters and what they are going through.

Puck and Sean have entered the Scorpio Races each for their own reasons. This is the plot for the story. It’s not the race as much as it is the reason why they are going to race and the build up to it. So don’t look for a lot of action, but this story has moments of thrills and chills, but not so much for the action reader. Is there a love story? There is a hint of one. However, not enough for a romance lover. The story is more than romance.

***************SPOILER****************
I was really upset with Puck’s brother. I couldn’t understand why he would leave without telling them they would be homeless. Did he not care if his teenage brother and sister would live or how they would survive? It was quite selfish. I understood his burdens, but I did see how he was just going to leave them blissfully ignorant. I’m not blaming the author because this was an intrical part of the story. It doesn’t mean I can’t be pissed about it.
*************END of SPOILER*************

Overall, I really enjoyed this story a lot. And as long as you enjoy thoughtful tales of life with little action and a little romance, go for it. Even if you don't, you still might like this one.

Audio Review

What adds to this amazing story is the audio book. The book is told in two POV and they have two narrators for the book. Steve West and Fiona Hardingham do a wonderful job with this story. The authentic accents presented enhanced the feeling for the setting of the story. If I could have requested one thing, it would have been no matter what POV chapter than during the dialogue Steve would have remained doing at least Sean’s dialogue and Fiona, Pucks. But still as it stands, I enjoyed this
one.

The Scarlet Dagger (The Red Sector Chronicles #1) by Krystle Jones

The Scarlet Dagger ~ Krystle Jones

This is a young adult dystopian/paranomal fantasy novel (Rate PG)

4.5 out of 5 stars

Book Summary

The strength of Sloane’s heart is about to be put to the ultimate test.

After the Eclipse – the night vampires began openly slaughtering human victims – everything changed. Out of fear, the government salvaged what remained of the human population and enclosed them in massive, security-laden cities called White Sectors, while marking the vampire infested territory as Red Sectors.

When seventeen-year-old Sloane McAllister’s twin brother disappears, she seems to be the only one who thinks he isn’t dead, and vows to stop at nothing to find him. Gathering her courage, she braves the Red Sector to search for clues to his whereabouts. By chance, she encounters Aden, a handsome, charismatic vampire with a hidden agenda. He turns Sloane against her will, and whisks her away to his underground city. Enemies quickly become friends as Sloane struggles against her attraction to Aden, and resists her growing loyalties to the creatures that ruined her life. But the vampires themselves are the least of her problems. The city is harboring a devastating secret, one that could change the tide of the war and threaten to destroy everything Sloane has come to believe in.

Heart-stopping action and scorching romance collide in this dystopian, urban fantasy thriller.

My Review

There are a lot of great indie authors. Long gone is the notion that indie authors were somehow inferior because they weren’t backed by the big boys. Some traditional publishers have to be kicking themselves for missing talents like E.L. James and Amanda Hockings.

Here is another fine example of a talented writer whose story is better than some books you find in mainstream bookstores.

Vampires, I love them. I’ve read everything from the classic vampire story to ones that sparkle, ones that don’t need blood, to ones like this. What is this.? Well I can’t tell you because that would spoil the fun. But I like to say that this story is a mix of dystopian and paranormal. Nice, right. Yes.

Okay, characters. Sloan is a tough girl in a tough situation. Instead of seeing a weak girl become strong. We dive into a story where a strong girl becomes vulnerable. Notice I didn’t say weak, because she was never weak.

The storyline simply put without giving much away is predator becomes prey and learns what that means and how that will change her life.

There are twists in the story that in passing may have crossed my mind, but with all that was going on, there was enough distraction to keep me guessing.

Do I recommend? Do I recommend, yes. I like this one a lot. So much I went looking for the sequel.  :(  It’s not out yet. No, the cliffhanger wasn’t terrible, but it did make you want more.

Carrier of the Mark (Carrier Trilogy #1) by Leigh Fallon

Carrier of the Mark ~ Leigh Fallon

This is a young adult paranomal romance novel (Rated PG-13)
4.5 out of 5 stars

Book Summary

When Megan Rosenberg moves to Ireland, everything in her life seems to fall into place. After growing up in America, she's surprised to find herself feeling at home in her new school. She connects with a group of friends, and she is instantly drawn to darkly handsome Adam DeRÍs.

But Megan is about to discover that her feelings for Adam are tied to a fate that was sealed long ago—and that the passion and power that brought them together could be their ultimate destruction.

My Review

This story was just so well written. The words flowed. The magic happened and I was enthralled by it.

Characters – Megan was such a different girl than I’ve read recently. I won’t get into much but she was a bit shy and fiery at the same time. The other characters were well developed enough I felt that I knew them as well.

I have to say, I’m surprised I liked this one. The ‘insta-love’, or rather a relationship purely based on the physical appearance was explained away. I could make sense of it and I can’t explain why without giving too much away. It still bothered me enough I couldn’t give the book full marks, but I really liked this book anyway.

It’s sad though that the next installment won’t be out until 2013. I’ve got to find a way to get my hands on an ARC. Someone have pity on me, lol.

Overall, do I recommend. YES, to those that like romance over action. Really this book isn’t totally driven by romance, but action packed it is not. I have a feeling though more action is to come in the next installment.

Audio Review

Nicola Barber did an amazing job. Her repertoire of voices was mind blowing. Her accents were really good and from an American point of view dead on. I would look for more book by this narrator she did such an amazing job. She aided my enjoyment of this book.

Eve (Eve #1) by Anna Carey

EVE ~ Anna Carey

this is a young adult dystopian novel. (Rated PG)

3.5 out of 5 stars

Book Summary

The year is 2032, sixteen years after a deadly virus—and the vaccine intended to protect against it—wiped out most of the earth’s population. The night before eighteen-year-old Eve’s graduation from her all-girls school she discovers what really happens to new graduates, and the horrifying fate that awaits her.

Fleeing the only home she’s ever known, Eve sets off on a long, treacherous journey, searching for a place she can survive. Along the way she encounters Caleb, a rough, rebellious boy living in the wild. Separated from men her whole life, Eve has been taught to fear them, but Caleb slowly wins her trust...and her heart. He promises to protect her, but when soldiers begin hunting them, Eve must choose between true love and her life.

My Review

The first almost two thirds of this book was not so good. I’m not sure how to put it. But I didn’t really enjoy it much. The writing wasn’t bad. I can’t say exactly what it was.

Characters – Eva, our heroine, or something that doesn’t resemble it was well developed. Too bad I didn’t like her very much. She was naïve, stupid, and selfish. The first two I could overlook. There were plenty of reasons for why she was that way. However, the last is unforgivable. It begins with a decision she makes at the very beginning. And it goes from there. But I don’t have to like the main character to enjoy the story.

For those readers who like strong female leads, this is not the book for you. Just be warned.

As far as the plotline goes, it gets better once she meets peter pan and the lost boys. That is code of course for those that have read the story. But Eve continues her journey down the stupidom, a hole mirroring Alice in Wonderland.

As frustrating as it was to listen to the book, I was strangely drawn to the outcome. There was one person that made the story interesting.

Audio Review

Tavia Gilbert is better known to me as the narrator of the Night Huntress series. And she didn’t disappoint in this series. In fact I think she helped keep me interested. Her voices were spot on how I would expect to hear them. Again, I was able to discern all the characters. Great job.

My book boyfriend is Caleb.  If you want to know why I picked this guy, you'll have to read the story.

Tempting the Best Man by J.Lynn

Tempting the Best Man ~ J. Lynn

A adult contemporary romance novella (Rated NC-17 for the sexiness of it all)

4.5 out of 5 stars

Book Summary

Madison Daniels has worshipped her brother's best friend since they were kids. Everyone thinks she and Chase Gamble would make the perfect couple, but there are two major flaws in their logic. 1) Chase has sworn off relationships of any kind, and 2) after blurring the line between friends and lovers for one night four years ago, they can't stop bickering.

Forced together for her brother's wedding getaway, Chase and Madison decide to call a truce for the happy couple. Except all bets are off when they're forced to shack up in a tacky 70’s honeymoon suite and survive a multitude of "accidents" as the family tries to prove their "spark" can be used than for more than fighting. That is, if they don't strangle each other first…

My Review

I wasn’t sure what to expect after reading this authors great young adult series. You never know when the cross over happens. But let's just say, I was not disappointed.

It’s hard sometimes for a story to really shine through in novella form. Some authors are great full novel storytellers but can cut it in short form. J.Lynn doesn’t have a problem here. I didn’t feel like I missed out on anything.

This story was a quick bite to satisfy my short term reading needs and still get the full bodied flavor, lol. Maddie was a feisty and funny girl. Chase the dashing and hot misguided guy.

My only hope is that J.Lynn will give us more bites with each of the other brothers. If I had to pick one, I think Chad would be my guy. So here is hoping to more Gamble brothers.

So my book boyfriend has to be Chase. This is his story.

New Book Releases Today!

City of Lost Souls (The Mortal Instruments #5) ~ Cassandra Clare

The last book was just okay for me. Jace needs to stop being so whiny and grow a pair. I still love him.

Book Blurb...

The demon Lilith has been destroyed and Jace has been freed from her captivity. But when the Shadowhunters arrive to rescue him, they find only blood and broken glass. Not only is the boy Clary loves missing–but so is the boy she hates, Sebastian, the son of her father Valentine: a son determined to succeed where their father failed, and bring the Shadowhunters to their knees.

No magic the Clave can summon can locate either boy, but Jace cannot stay away—not from Clary. When they meet again Clary discovers the horror Lilith’s dying magic has wrought—Jace is no longer the boy she loved. He and Sebastian are now bound to each other, and Jace has become what he most feared: a true servant of Valentine’s evil. The Clave is determined to destroy Sebastian, but there is no way to harm one boy without destroying the other. Will the Shadowhunters hesitate to kill one of their own?

Only a small band of Clary and Jace’s friends and family believe that Jace can still be saved — and that the fate of the Shadowhunters’ future may hinge on that salvation. They must defy the Clave and strike out on their own. Alec, Magnus, Simon and Isabelle must work together to save Jace: bargaining with the sinister Faerie Queen, contemplating deals with demons, and turning at last to the Iron Sisters, the reclusive and merciless weapons makers for the Shadowhunters, who tell them that no weapon on this earth can sever the bond between Sebastian and Jace. Their only chance of cutting Jace free is to challenge Heaven and Hell — a risk that could claim any, or all, of their lives.

And they must do it without Clary. For Clary has gone into the heart of darkness, to play a dangerous game utterly alone. The price of losing the game is not just her own life, but Jace’s soul. She’s willing to do anything for Jace, but can she even still trust him? Or is he truly lost? What price is too high to pay, even for love?

Darkness threatens to claim the Shadowhunters in the harrowing fifth book of the Mortal Instruments series.

Endure (Need #4) ~ Carrie Jones

It's been so long since I read the last book, I can hardly remember what happened.  I hope she has a quick recap.

Book Blurb....

It’s all-out war (and no-holds-barred romance) in the climactic conclusion to Carrie Jones’s bestselling series.

Zara is at the center of an impending apocalypse. True, she’s successfully rescued Nick from Valhalla, but it simply isn’t enough. Evil pixies are ravaging Bedford, and they need much more than one great warrior; they need an army. Zara isn’t sure what her role is anymore. She’s not just fighting for her friends; she’s also a pixie queen. And to align her team of pixies with the humans she loves will be one of her greatest battles yet. Especially since she can’t even reconcile her growing feelings for her pixie king . . .

Unexpected turns, surprising revelations, and one utterly satisfying romantic finale make Endure a thrilling end to this series of bestsellers.

Insurgent (Divergent #2) by Veronica Roth

Insurgent ~ Veronica Roth

This is a young adult dystopian novel (Rated PG)

5 out of 5 stars

Book Summay

One choice can transform you—or it can destroy you. But every choice has consequences, and as unrest surges in the factions all around her, Tris Prior must continue trying to save those she loves—and herself—while grappling with haunting questions of grief and forgiveness, identity and loyalty, politics and love.

Tris's initiation day should have been marked by celebration and victory with her chosen faction; instead, the day ended with unspeakable horrors. War now looms as conflict between the factions and their ideologies grows. And in times of war, sides must be chosen, secrets will emerge, and choices will become even more irrevocable—and even more powerful. Transformed by her own decisions but also by haunting grief and guilt, radical new discoveries, and shifting relationships, Tris must fully embrace her Divergence, even if she does not know what she may lose by doing so.

New York Times bestselling author Veronica Roth's much-anticipated second book of the dystopian Divergent series is another intoxicating thrill ride of a story, rich with hallmark twists, heartbreaks, romance, and powerful insights about human nature.

My Review

I had high expectations for this book. And it delivered! When an author can affect your mood by their writing, then they have done something right. It wasn’t all happy happy joy joy in this story, but it was what was expected for this plot line to unfold.

Tris’s journey in this book is a roller coaster. Even though I wanted to smack her a few times, I had to remind myself Tris is a sixteen year old girl and all her decision rash or otherwise will not always be right in my mind. If they were, this wouldn’t be a realistic or well written story.

Tobias isn’t faultless either in the book and we will be properly scandalized by others in this book. Because I want you readers to enjoy this story as much as I did, I won’t say much more. I will say as questions are answered and others developed. Never did I expect that ending. Some of it maybe, all of it no.

Veronica Roth is an amazing writer. And I will follow her to the writing moon. I can’t wait until the next book. I’ve become more of a fan. If you haven’t read, please do. Read Divergent first.

Ink (Ink, #1) by Holly Hood

Ink ~ Holly Hood

This is a young adult paranormal romance novel leaning towards adult.

(Rated NC-17 for the sexiness of it all)

5 out of 5 stars

Book Summary

Hope didn’t ask for so much change in her life. She was happy living in Georgia for the rest of her life. Focusing on the things she loved the most: singing, dancing, and her best friend Karsen. This was effortless, she had no worries.

But all that changed when her mother decided to leave her dad for Pete, the Tae Kwon do instructor. And now Hope had to choose between staying where she belonged or moving far away to Cherry California with her dad.

After making the choice to move far away, to protect her father, Hope realizes Cherry is nothing like the hometown she’s used to. Everyone is rude, high class and she doesn’t fit in. Not until Slade comes along. He has never fit in and he is okay with that. And Hope is fascinated by everything that Slade is. All the way down to his tattoos and bat wielding rescue the first time they meet.

She knows she should stay far away from him, but it proves tricky as she discovers dark secrets about the town and people in Cherry, California. Hope doesn’t know who to trust as her life takes a turn from ordinary and depressing to dangerous and wild.

My Reviews

First off, although this book feel YA because the female lead is seventeen, the topics are quite adult.  This book content rivals description of some adult books so be warned. This book is not for the faint of heart. With that said, I still think for the most part what happens is an important part of the story. Despite that, I thoroughly enjoyed this one.

Hope is a girl who is coming into herself so to speak. Not sure what was going on in Georgia, but in California all bets are off. She makes interesting decisions but given being put in her shoes, I find I might make a lot of the same choices.

We have other characters that I won’t mention because I think you should find out on your own. To say the least I was changing my mind about certain people as much as Hope as the story unfolds. I got to mention her best friend Karsen. I love her. She was a fun girl, and I wonder if Hope ever got her letter to its destination. I don’t remember that being addressed. I could have missed it, but if not it was the only real plot hole I found.

As far as the storyline goes, I love drama and this book had it. I was flabbergasted at one point in the story with her dad so much I had a hard time reading. I felt like it was happening to me and well…

Anyway, it was a really good story and I’m looking forward to more.

My book boyfriend Slade.

Okay, after speaking with the author, I had to update the likiness she recommended.  YUM!

Intimate Exposure by Portia Da Costa

When Red arranges a weekend at a secluded hotel, Vicki agrees to indulge in no-strings-attached erotic fun. But can she commit to this kind of life with Red when he realizes they can have so much more?

My Review

This story starts off innocently enough. In fact I think the story is more a play off of The Story of O than it is about Fifty Shades of Grey.

You know I’m not about spoilers, but I think the reader should be warned that this book dives into pain for pleasure which I didn’t find true in Fifty Shades of Grey. Enough comparisons as the only other is weathly man into BDSM. Our guy doesn’t have issues unless you count the fact he gets off on delivering pain, lol. I must say I’m not into pain, but the story still radiated a lot of heat despite that.

This is a medium-length novel and just when I thought I was becoming uninterested in the book, things picked up. Besides the pain, my biggest turn off for this book was the insta-love.  And with the length, I couldn't see a way around it.  But it can't be ignored either.

So, if you are curious about BDSM from reading Fifty Shades, you can try this to get a different perspective. It’s a shorter novel so it doesn’t totally dive into the lifestyle but it gives you a different side of it.

My book boyfriend Red.

The Best Mistake by Kate Watterson

The Best Mistake ~ Kate Watterson

Book Summary

Ran doesn’t want an innocent mistake to ruin his relationship with his girlfriend or his cousin, so he proposes a solution. He wants the three of them to solve this problem the old-fashioned way, by sleeping on it…together.

17,000 words

My Review

Ladies, do you ever want to read some quick and hot. Well, this is the story for you.

I was looking for something quick to read and read the summary which pretty much gives everything away. I kind of wish I hadn’t, I wonder how I would have experienced the story differently if I didn’t know. But I still really enjoyed.

In fact, I think I was giggling uncomfortably through the beginning because I knew what was going to happen. HOT!

When reading erotica, most don’t expect a lot of plot especially when this one is about 17K in words. So, the plot centers around this mistake and how they all handle it.

I hate I can only have one book boyfriend. But according to the book these guys resemble each other anyway.

So my book boyfriend is Rick.

My Review

Let me just say, that this cover captured my attention long before I read the book.  I picked it up one day on a special and I don’t regret.  I kind of regret waiting to read it though.  It has the drama I love.

So, this story is self explained in the summary.  I didn’t however read the summary before I read the book.  Sometimes I think summaries give too much away.  Although I do read them sometimes, I try not to read right before I start the book.  I don’t want to expect anything.  I wasn’t the whole experience with the mysteries to unfold as I turn the pages.  I digress.

The characters in the story are portrayed well.  This is a two point of view story and Abbi keeps it real.  The language and scenes are gritty but certainly believable.
That takes us into the storyline.  Wow, we’ve all seen the love triangle, but this one didn’t remind me of any other story and I was so into it.  Although one boy captured my heart, the other wasn’t too far behind.  At some points I was rooting for the other boy.
My only complaint is that I think the book was a little short.  Okay, so I wanted more.  But more than that, I thought things wrapped up a little too easily.  There was more conflict to be had.  And of course, I went to look for the next book and it wasn’t available.
It looks like the book has been given out as an ARC.  I’m pleading to the author to save me from my misery and offer me a copy of Vincent Brother, please.  Well enough of my shameful pleading.
Do I recommend? YES.  When to read? soon. I won’t say now because the next book isn’t out yet.  So read when you can.  And do read.
I look forward to more fromt his author.
My book boyfriend is Beau.

The Calling by Kelley Armstrong

the Calling ~ Kelley Armstong

this is a young adult paranomal urban fantasy novel (Rate PG-13)

4.5 out of 5 stars

Book Summary

Maya and her friends--all of whom have supernatural powers--have been kidnapped after fleeing from a forest fire they suspect was deliberately set, and after a terrifying helicopter crash they find themselves pursued by evildoers in the Vancouver Island wilderness.

My Review

All Kelley Armstong fans will enjoy this latest installment in this series.  I was anxious to read this one because the last book just left off….  Yeah, just like that, lol.

Anyway, even though some parts were a little predicable for me, there were times I was holding my breath waiting for what was to come next.  It wasn’t like I knew for sure when the twist occurred.  It could have been me just able to pick the right conclusion.
If you are looking for romance, there isn’t much.  But the story does make up for that.  I’d hoped for resolution and maybe a little declaration of love, but well, I won’t give it away.
I’m on the edge waiting to see with this cliffhanger exactly where Kelley is going to go with this.  I need more and soon.
Should you read. YES.  When, the next time you are looking for a good book to read.  If you haven’t started this series, check out my review of the Gathering.  Then pick it up.
My book boyfriend is still Daniel.  But since I’ve already posted a picture of him, meet Rafe.

BlockBuster day in the Book Publishing World

Well, at least for me.  Some of my most awaited series sequels come out today!

Insurgent (Divergent #2) ~ Veronica Roth

OMG!  I can't wait for this one.  Here is the blurb...

SHINE (Shade #3) ~ Jeri Smith-Ready

I can't believe that this is the conculsion of this series.  I almost don't want to read.  Here is the blurb...

In this dramatic conclusion to the Shade trilogy, Aura and Zachary’s relationship sizzles as the secrets of the Shift are revealed.

Life can change in an instant, and no one understands that better than Aura. It’s been almost a year since her boyfriend tragically died. She’s finally letting go of Logan’s violet-hued ghost, but not her search to uncover the truth about her past.

As the first in a generation that can see ghosts, Aura is convinced she has a connection to the Shift. She’s trusted Zachary, ever patient and ever by her side, with all that she knows. But when the government threatens his life in an attempt to learn Aura’s secrets, she will stop at nothing to protect herself and the one she loves...even if that means betraying her own heart.

Deadlocked (Sookie Stackhouse #12) ~ Charlaine Harris

The last two books were okay.  I hoping for the best with this installment yet, I'm still excited.

Book blurb....

RELEASE DAY ~ May 8, 2012 (next week, but I'm including it anyway.)
