My Review

This last book really left on a cliffhanger that made the next book an instant read. Thank goodness the second book didn’t disappoint. Things got started not to long after the last book left off.
And even though I read this book back in January and have read many books since, I remember this one intently. A lot happens in this book. There is a lot of action and a continuation on a budding romance. It’s so sweet yet fierce in a way because one has to fight for the other. And the other must learn to trust or not to trust.
This is a good paranormal story with a solid message. A good message, one we can all learn from. Everyone can make mistakes. It’s what you do with that lesson after that truly counts.

However, all Delaney wants is to be normal. That’s why she is drawn to Sam. He can offer her the life she’s always desired. Only Sam has secrets of his own.

Secrets that are deadly. Secrets that can change everything.

My Review

This is a very unique tale. The world building set apart from anything I’ve read before. The story is engaging throughout as you wait for everything to play out.
Sometimes in books, some characters let you down. Sometimes they really surprise you. You get both in this one. I couldn’t blame Delany for what she did, and really that’s the point. We all at sometime fall short. But we have to move on from that and learn impossible lessons that build character.
This story left on a cliffy, but thank goodness the next book is available. I encourage you to read this one.
Unfortunately, I read these books back in January. And then I had some serious medical issues happen to me. On top of that, a small person decided to try and enter my password on my ipad repeatedly wiping everything. I lost this book along with the subsequent one. Therefore, I don’t have a description of Sam. I’m going to go with my gut feeling of what he looked like and hope I’m correct.

Ice Country (Country Saga #2) by David Estes

Ice Country  (Country Saga #2) by David Estes

This is a young adult dystopian novel

♥♥♥♥♥
(Five Icy Hearts)

Book Summary

Dazz, a hard-edged, fun-loving Icer, likes fighting, particularly while at his favorite watering hole. However, while recovering from a particularly bad break up, his decision to engage in a brutal pubroom brawl leads to a series of events that thrust him into a dark and mysterious scandal involving King Goff, the ice country ruler.

When his sister is abducted in the dark of night, Dazz pledges to do whatever it takes to get her back, embarking on a quest that threatens to rip apart the very fabric that's barely holding his shattered family together.

Along the way he meets a group of unlikely allies in the form of a travelling group of fire country natives. Can Dazz, when joined with his best friend, Buff, and new tan-skinned friends, defeat the King and his guards before it's too late for his sister?

My Review

Okay, I’ll admit I loved Siena from Fire Country. So I could have loved an entire series from her perspective. But alas it’s not to be. However, Siena is not gone. This whole series ties together and we do see her here in this book as well as the subsequent book. And I’m thrilled because although this series stands on its own, it will tie into another series as well.
What we have here is a book told completely from the male perspective. I love reading books from the male perspective especially ones written by a guy. Amazing insight, lol.
This book still has romance, but the action to boot. David is a genius author with this series. He creates a world all his own and one you can envision. This story is as intricate as a snowflake under the microscope, detailed and well crafted. My heart stops and freezes in this book as he keeps us on the edge.
Overall stellar and I totally forgot to put my review up months ago, but it’s never too late to pick up this series and I encourage you to do so.

(Four Soulless Hearts)

Book Summary

Lady Alexia Maccon, soulless, is at it again, only this time the trouble is not her fault. When a mad ghost threatens the queen, Alexia is on the case, following a trail that leads her deep into her husband's past. Top that off with a sister who has joined the suffragette movement (shocking!), Madame Lefoux's latest mechanical invention, and a plague of zombie porcupines and Alexia barely has time to remember she happens to be eight months pregnant.

Will Alexia manage to determine who is trying to kill Queen Victoria before it is too late? Is it the vampires again or is there a traitor lurking about in wolf's clothing? And what, exactly, has taken up residence in Lord Akeldama's second best closet?

My Review

We get a lot of answers in this installment of the book. And oh were they shocking in some cases. But then again, not. I actually suspected some things but somehow thought that maybe I was hoping too much.

Alexia is solving a mystery yet again. And if memory serves, we don’t get as much interaction with Conall as I would have liked. But it’s been a while. I can’t believe I forgot to do a review on this one. However, I did enjoy and immediately move on to the next in the series. When I like a series and all the books are available, I try to move forward and soak up all the goodness.
If you haven’t read this series, not only is it well written, there are some really great laugh out loud moments that will really hook you in. Somehow this author is able to capture the seriousness of a moment and lighten the mood too when necessary. My hats off.

Audio Review
Emily Gray is just outstanding. She’s perfect for this story as this story seemed like it was written for her. I look forward to listening to more of her narration.

My Review

This book was rocking for the beginning. Man, this book was recommended to me, so I went in cold without reading the book summary. Which is how I like to do it. I had an idea that a lot of things would happen based on the rec, but my mind remained clear to formulate my own ideas about the story.

Wow, is what I can say. This is one of my top reads for the year. Somewhere around ¾ in, the story lost me just a little but for the life of me I can’t remember why as I’m writing this a few days later. I do know that I figured out the bad guys when I first met one and about halfway through on one other. But that didn’t matter so much. I still wasn’t sure until the end, so it didn’t change my level of interest.

Okay, I don’t need sex in a book. But man, it would have spiced things up if the things would have had more detail. Again, I didn’t take away from that. Maybe a novella, lol. A girl can dream.

So many things are going on in this story and there are a lot of characters that we don’t get to know them all. And that is okay. I think for the most part, we learn enough for the story to flow. But I’m hoping of the pack of guys we didn’t learn much about, there will be more to come.

I fell in love quite a bit in this book. So it was hard to chose. But in the end, my book boyfriend had to be Roman. *sigh*

Everbound (Everneath #2) by Brodi Ashton

Everbound  (Everneath #2) by Brodi Ashton

This is a young adult paranormal romance novel (Rated PG-13)

 ♥♥♥1/2
(Three and a half boring hearts)

Book Summary

Nikki Beckett could only watch as her boyfriend, Jack, sacrificed himself to save her, taking her place in the Tunnels of the Everneath for eternity — a debt that should’ve been hers. She’s living a borrowed life, and she doesn’t know what to do with the guilt. And every night Jack appears in her dreams, lost and confused and wasting away.

Desperate for answers, Nikki turns to Cole, the immortal bad boy who wants to make her his queen — and the one person least likely to help. But his heart has been touched by everything about Nikki, and he agrees to assist her in the only way he can: by taking her to the Everneath himself.

Nikki and Cole descend into the Everneath, only to discover that their journey will be more difficult than they’d anticipated — and more deadly. But Nikki vows to stop at nothing to save Jack — even if it means making an incredible sacrifice of her own.

In this enthralling sequel to Everneath, Brodi Ashton tests the bonds of destiny and explores the lengths we’ll go to for the ones we love.

My Review

I’ll just be honest here. I was disappointed with the book. The writing doesn’t seem as polished. The storyline follows the same path as many other 2nd books in YA PRN or Dystopian such as Nightshade, Unearthly and Delirium. Those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head.
You have a love triangle, yet the author tries to make it seem like we don’t by focusing on one boy in each book. So that’s what we have here. Sorry for the mild spoiler, but one boy takes a back seat. Don’t get me wrong, the author tries to incorporate that missing boy in the story through memories and flash backs, but it’s not the same. On top of that, she makes us fall for boy #2. Ugh. I won’t say more because I don’t want to give anything away.
So then we are on this journey in a new world that has new rules. And it wouldn’t be so bad until we the MCs find themselves in a viscous loop literally and mentally. The only thing that comes to mind is “Don’t look into the light Carol Anne.” And if you haven’t seen the movie Poltergeist, you won’t appreciate my reference. So I’ll just say, how many times do they warn are female lead only for her to “look into the light” anyway.
It gets a bit redundant and boring. Nothing new happens in each loop except extraneous stuff. The outcome is still the same. I was annoyed. I will say the ending caught me by surprise. I was sure someone came back as the other, but that didn’t seem to be the case. However, it’s too obvious something isn’t right. And our female lead is far too trusting.
Will I read the next, YES. It wasn’t bad enough to quit. But I will reserve judgment on my future recommendations.
My book boyfriend is Jack, but I’m giving you Cole.

The Pleasures of Summer  (Pleasures #2) by Evie Hunter

This is an adult romance/erotica novel (Rated NC-17)

 ♥♥♥♥♥
(Five Fantastic Hearts)

Book Summary

Summer O’Sullivan is rich, beautiful and in mortal danger. Her father has made powerful enemies who are targeting his precious daughter. Until the threat passes, Summer needs a bodyguard – someone to protect her and, she expects, to treat her with the reverence she’s used to.

Into Summer’s gilded cage comes former ranger, Flynn Grant. As far as Flynn is concerned, this is the assignment from hell, minding the spoilt daughter of a multi-millionaire. Summer and Flynn are poised to hate each other on sight. Even his devastating looks do not make up for how Flynn’s rules cramp Summer’s style. Unsurprisingly, the sparks fly between them. But when Summer breaks the rules one time too often, Flynn teaches her a lesson that leaves them shattered – and bound
together in a way that astonishes them both.

In their remote hideout, the two start a battle over who is the tamer, and who is the tamed. It’s a duel that stretches their minds and bodies beyond every limit. And in time their hearts begin to surrender too. But when the dark forces that
have been stalking Summer finally track them down, the battle is no longer a game, but a matter of life and death …

My Review

I loved Pleasures of Winter, so I hopped on the opportunity to read this book. I’ll have to say I hate reading blurbs, so I thought I was getting more Jack. Sadly that isn’t the case. Yet, I wasn’t disappointed.
The book opens up with poor little rich girl Summer. And I know that she’s going to learn a lesson. But oh what a lesson! Oh what a man!
Every delicious moment comes with amazing tension and believability. Wow, step aside Gideon Cross, there is a new man in town and his name is Flynn Grant. I would take him any day over Gideon.
These characters were created with precision. They have depth and scope of where they are going. They clash and create chemistry like any great romance. The heroine doesn’t roll over and play dead, she gives it as good as she got it.
Watch out people, I’m telling you this writing duo is one to watch. They’ve knocked it out of the park with two and a row (Pleasures of Winter and now this one). A double, I’m just waiting patiently for a triple and the grand slam to come. Are there more seasons, because Fall and Spring aren’t enough?
If you want a well written book to read after Fifty or even better than Gideon Cross, look no further. Not only do you get all the tension with a hell of a pay off, you get a believable HEA at the end. Masterfully written, artfully told, and yummy to read.

Everneath  (Everneath #1) by Brodi Ashton

This is a young adult paranormal romance novel

♥♥♥♥1/2
(Four and a Half Ever Hearts)

Book Summary

Last spring, Nikki Beckett vanished, sucked into an underworld known as the Everneath. Now she’s returned—to her old life, her family, her boyfriend—before she’s banished back to the underworld . . . this time forever. She has six months before the Everneath comes to claim her, six months for good-byes she can’t find the words for, six months to find redemption, if it exists.

Nikki longs to spend these precious months forgetting the Everneath and trying to reconnect with her boyfriend, Jack, the person most devastated by her disappearance—and the one person she loves more than anything. But there’s just one problem: Cole, the smoldering immortal who enticed her to the Everneath in the first place, has followed Nikki home. Cole wants to take over the throne in the underworld and is convinced Nikki is the key to making it happen. And he’ll do whatever it takes to bring her back, this time as his queen.

As Nikki’s time on the Surface draws to a close and her relationships begin slipping from her grasp, she is forced to make the hardest decision of her life: find a way to cheat fate and remain on the Surface with Jack or return to the Everneath and become Cole’s queen.

Everneath is a captivating story of love, loss, and immortality from debut author Brodi Ashton.

My Review

It’s hard for me to write this review because I’ve already read the second book. But let me try. I was really into this story. What I liked most was the uniqueness and the wonderful writing Okay, not to mention the major drama. Love the drama.

This story had a countdown that kept you on the edge and a dip into the past that kept things interesting by revealing things slowly. Not to mention the hot guys. And as hot as Cole is, Jack just has something that sets my heart on fire.

Overall, I really enjoyed this one. But I’m not quite sure I can recommend this series. Check out my review of book two, Everbound to answers to that question.

Daughter of Smoke & Bone  (Daughter of Smoke & Bone #1) by Laini Taylor

This is a new adult paranormal romance novel (Rated R)

 ♥♥♥1/2
(Three and a Half Hearts)

Book Summary

Around the world, black handprints are appearing on doorways, scorched there by winged strangers who have crept through a slit in the sky.

In a dark and dusty shop, a devil’s supply of human teeth grown dangerously low.

And in the tangled lanes of Prague, a young art student is about to be caught up in a brutal otherwordly war.

Meet Karou. She fills her sketchbooks with monsters that may or may not be real; she’s prone to disappearing on mysterious "errands"; she speaks many languages not all of them human; and her bright blue hair actually grows out of her head that color. Who is she? That is the question that haunts her, and she’s about to find out.

When one of the strangers—beautiful, haunted Akiva—fixes his fire-colored eyes on her in an alley in Marrakesh, the result is blood and starlight, secrets unveiled, and a star-crossed love whose roots drink deep of a violent past. But will Karou live to regret learning the truth about herself?

My Review

First let me say that the writing in this story is excellent. Additionally, the world building in this story that happens far too late is excellent as well. So, my rating on this story is mostly based on my enjoyment.
So let’s get to it. The first chapter in this one is promising. I was really excited to read. Then after that it fizzles into nothing. We follow a selfish Karou around through her daily life not understanding what makes her special. I think that’s the killer for me. Karou is selfish (until things revealed late). Everything she does it at her pleasure and curiosity without care to others. And really she has no reason for that. She grew up loved.  I don’t have to like a character to enjoy a story, but my dislike better have basis in the story. Here it does not. She’s just selfish.
Now, the story really drags. And I know the author is trying to create some suspense but it doesn’t work here, at least for me. I was able to put the book down and make it as a DNF (did not finish).  Finally, I came back and let me say, I’m happy I borrowed an audio download copy through overdrive in partnership with my state library. I would have been unhappy if I paid for it.
Okay, so around the 75% mark, things got a whole lot more interesting. Personally, I think a reorder of the story might have made this a more interesting read. I think if we got more the past earlier or started from the beginning, I would have been caught up with the story. Instead we spend time following Karou to class and bargaining for teeth, quite boring.
Overall, I will read the next one. I just won’t jump out and get it. Karou only made me hate her more for the ending and how she treated a certain person after nearly vowing she wouldn’t. Why she blamed that person when his act had been out of caring, I don’t know. And I’m not in the mood to rush out to read more blah to fill a page until she comes to her senses.
So there you have it. Unfortunately, I borrowed the book. So my picture will be of how this person was conjured in my head. He may not have the specific characteristics of the actual character.
My book boyfriend Akiva.

No matter how hard she tries to cover up the marks her monsters have left behind, they never truly go away, and Myles’ monsters are no different.

Once again, Sophie’s caught between life and death, but this time, only she can save herself.

My Review

When I got my hands on this second book I didn’t hesitate to read right away. I needed to see how Sophie’s new life would work.
I was exceedingly pleased with the pace of how everything unfolded and Sophie’s development in life. She still doesn’t have it easy, but things are slowly getting better.
When I was getting to the end I got so caught up in the events, the ending hit me like a blow. I kept trying to find more pages thinking I know this didn’t end. Needless to say, I’m anxious for book three.
This book is about striving for success that feels rooted in failure, working towards love seeded in lies, and wanting to live but forced to change. This story is exciting and everything good about an epic paranormal romance.
I need book three like I need water to survive. I simply can’t wait.

Sunshine (Sunshine Series, #1) by Nikki Rae

This is a New Adult paranormal romance novel (Rated R)

 ♥♥♥♥1/2
(Four and a half Purple Hearts)

Book Summary

18 year old Sophie Jean is pretty good at acting normal. Sure, she’s not exactly happy, but happiness is nothing compared to being like everyone else. She can pretend she’s not allergic to the sun. She can hide what her ex-boyfriend did to her. She can cover up the scars she’s made for herself. Ignore anything. Forget anything. Then Myles enters her life, and he has more than a few secrets of his own. When accident after accident keeps happening to Sophie, she can’t help noticing that he’s everywhere. That he knows too much. That she’s remembering too much.

It’s one thing covering up her own dark past, but does she really need to worry about people finding out just how much Myles likes her? Or that despite how much she doesn’t want to repeat past mistakes, she kind of likes him back? Not to mention the fact that she now has to conceal that Myles drinks blood-that he says he’s about four hundred years old.

She almost forgot about that part.

But Sophie has no plans to ruin the normal life she has created for herself. She can deal with this little glitch, no problem. Even if word has gotten around to the wrong vampire about Sophie and Myles, even if she’s putting the few people she loves at risk. Suddenly, those who were monsters before are just people, and the monsters? They’re real. Now being a normal human being is the least of her problems. Now she has to stay alive.

My Review

I always walk into a book with two things. First I believe it will be a decent book, good read. Second, I try to go in cold without reading the blurb because I think more than not, too much is given away in the summary.

So, when I opened this book, I wasn’t expected to be blown away. Yet, I couldn’t put this book down. Once I got past the cheeky names of some of the characters, I was all in.

I loved the character development in this story. This isn’t the average pretty girl waiting to be discovered by the hottest guy in school/on campus/billionaire run in. No this book takes a girl with issues and develops this story around her crazy life.

And I must admit I really thought I had this book figured out, but I have it on good authority I’m all wrong. Which is a good thing. I love surprises.

I really enjoyed this one and would recommend. Although it starts in high school,  I would consider this a New Adult book because the character is already 18 and this series will be more about her life after high school.

Pick this one up, a solid read.

Keep your friends close and your enemies closer...preferably in bed. That's always been Kingsley Edge's strategy with his associate, the notorious New York dominatrix Nora Sutherlin. But with Nora away in Kentucky, now it's Kingsley's chance to take her place at the feet of the only man he's ever wanted -- Søren, Nora's on-again, off-again lover -- until a new threat from an old enemy forces him to confront his past.

Wes Railey is still the object of Nora's tamest yet most maddening fantasies, and the one man she can't forget. He's young. He's wonderful. He's also thoroughbred royalty and she's in "his" world now. But Nora is no simpering Southern belle, and her dream of fitting into Wesley's world is perpetually at odds with her dear Søren's relentlessly seductive pull.

Two worlds of wealth and passion call to her and whichever one Nora chooses, it will be the hardest decision she will ever have to make... unless someone makes it for her....

My Review

This book was formatted just a little differently. The author choses two main POV, one in the present the other in the past until they somewhat collide. I’ll say that at first I wasn’t truly interested in the past. But that quickly changed.
And the sex in the book of course is super hot. This book only made me love Wes more and my feeling for Søren very confused. I was totally torn in the end, but I’m leaning towards Wes.
This book out of all three really isn’t for the faint of heart. I thought the other two books took me places, but the author tops those with this one. I had no problem reading any of it. In fact it was super hot. Anyway, if you like books that are unique and contemporary, this is your book.
This book is very well written from a genius mind, a mind that goes beyond imagination in a believable way. This is a five star plus read that will blow all your walls down and have you begging for more.  A must read in my book.
Audio Review
Robin Rowan did a good job with this book. Sometimes a change in narrators throws me, especially when the POV haven’t changed. But in this series, it didn’t bother me even though I listened back to back.
My book boyfriend Wes.

The Angel (The Original Sinners #2) by Tiffany Reisz

The Angel  (The Original Sinners #2) by Tiffany Reisz

This is an adult romance/erotica novel (Rated N-17)

 ♥♥♥♥♥
(Five Super Sexy Hearts)

Book Summary

No safe word can protect the heart
Infamous erotica author and accomplished dominatrix Nora Sutherlin is doing something utterly out of character: hiding. While her longtime lover, Søren—whose fetishes, if exposed, would be his ruin—is under scrutiny pending a major promotion, Nora's lying low and away from temptation in the lap of luxury.

Her host, the wealthy and uninhibited Griffin Fiske, is thrilled to have Nora stay at his country estate, especially once he meets her traveling companion. Young, inexperienced and angelically beautiful, Michael has become Nora's protégé, and this summer with Griffin is going to be his training, where the hazing never ends.

But while her flesh is willing, Nora's mind is wandering. To thoughts of Søren, her master, under investigation by a journalist with an ax to grind. And to another man from Nora's past, whose hold on her is less bruising, but whose secrets are no less painful. It's a summer that will prove the old adage: love hurts.

My Review

Oh my, my, my. What a book? Ah, Nora, how you capture my attention. Set away from Søren, Wes and Zach, I wondered how I would get through this book. Have no fear Griffin’s here and makes everything better, lol. Don’t get me wrong Søren is in the book.
I love Griffin. It is one of the best characters in this series. Michael troubled me in the first book I must say. But the author does a awesome job of bringing me on board in this book.
Anywho, I was pissed at Søren. I won’t say why for spoiler reasons. Ugh, I want to spill the beans but I don’t have a way of saying it without giving anything away.
So, what’s what. This book is filled with steamy sex and by gods, lots of plot. Can you dig it? Not all authors can pull this off, but this author is a master at that.
This series is one I could re-read there is so much going on beside the sex. So many details I could learn. I look forward to reading more from this author. I doubt that her fabulous writing started here.
If you aren’t the faint of heart, read this series right away. It’s fast becoming my favorite maybe even over Fifty. (shutters, gasp) I know. But damn it, this one is soooo good.

Lilly Rhodes did a good job with this book. Sometimes a change in narrators throws me, especially when the POV haven’t changed. But in this series, it was seamless somehow. And I read the books back to back.

My Review

This is one of my favorite authors. If you haven’t read any of her books, you are missing out.  What we have here is a story of secrets. And man there are some whoppers. Things happen in this book that I hadn’t expected at all.
It’s hard not to like the two main characters in this book. They both have their strengths and weaknesses.  And when they are forced into the human world, all hell breaks loose, literally, lol.
What’s surprising is how they handle it? I think that’s where the twist I never saw coming happen. Specifically the party. Mmmm.
This author always has delicious guys in her stories. Don’t believe me, check out other reviews who say the same thing. I can’t wait for the next book in the series.
My book boyfriend Keller. (I got this from the author's blog. love it)

This is an adult romance/erotica novel (Rated NC-17)

 ♥♥♥♥♥
(Five Amazing Balls Hearts)

Book Summary

Notorious Nora Sutherlin is famous for her delicious works of erotica, each one more popular with readers than the last. But her latest manuscript is different—more serious, more personal—and she's sure it'll be her breakout book...if it ever sees the light of day.

Zachary Easton holds Nora's fate in his well-manicured hands. The demanding British editor agrees to handle the book on one condition: he wants complete control. Nora must rewrite the entire novel to his exacting standards—in six weeks—or it's no deal.

Nora's grueling writing sessions with Zach are draining…and shockingly arousing. And a dangerous former lover has her wondering which is more torturous—staying away from him...or returning to his bed?

Nora thought she knew everything about being pushed to your limits. But in a world where passion is pain, nothing is ever that simple.

My Review

This book was stupendous, fantastic, awesome and just damn good. If I could give 10 out of 5 stars, I would.  I haven’t been so excited about a book or series in quite some time. This will definitely be on my 2013 Top reads of the year. It’s unique in the most twisted and pleasant of ways.

The journey through this book/series is like riding through the jungle. You anticipate seeing some lions, tigers, elephants oh my. But you are also a little bit afraid. And that is what we have here a healthy dose of curiosity and fascination with just enough fear of what might come next to keep you on the edge of your seat.
Ms. Reisz does an amazing balls job of making every man despite their flaws not only believable but scrumptious too. And not to mention the incredible sexual tension....
I can’t say that I was in love with the ending of this one, and mostly because I wanted more. But I was extremely happy to know that the next book was immediately available.
Audio Review
Aeron James did a good job with this book. I loved his accent and it worked in this book.
Overall, I dare say that if ever I was to re-read a book/series, it would be this one. I think there is so much I might learn a second time around.
I love Wes, but I’m going to give this book to Zach.
My book boyfriend Zach.
