After a steamy night of passion with a dark stranger, Arbor’s life takes on a surreal edge. Disturbing dreams, lapses in memory, and entire buildings going missing are only a few of her problems. Her search for answers leads her to Detective Trey Murphy, the man in charge of investigating satanic and ritualistic crime for the New Orleans area.

Where do you turn when your mind is the enemy?

Meeting Trey only adds to Arbor’s confusion. By day, he keeps her captivated and gains her trust in a way no one else ever has. At night, Arbor’s every fantasy is brought to life by two sexy men who steal away her inhibitions. Torn between what her heart knows is real and what her eyes show her, Arbor must find the truth before she loses herself completely.

But, then again, sometimes reality is more twisted than any dream and love is the cruelest form of insanity.

Warning: This isn’t your typical love story. It’s dark with scenes some may find disturbing. Sometimes love is senseless, and the heart is so very stupid.

EXCERPT
“I thought you were with the band,” he said as he lifted his coffee to his lips. It was the only way he could think to open the topic for discussion. Not that he cared, of course. She’d called him. It was a start. If there was a line he wouldn’t cross when it came to getting what he wanted—namely, her—he hadn’t yet seen it. Deep longing for something out his reach was a familiar weight. Her eyes never left the dessert menu. He knew she wasn’t really seeing it because her gaze remained fixed to one spot.

“With the band,” she repeated, sounding wry and making him wonder if he’d insulted her. “That would require knowing where they are,” she added so quietly Trey assumed it was meant more for her than him. With a shake of her head, Arbor met his stare. For a split second, Trey was rendered mute. Everything around them disappeared. It punched him in the chest. She possessed something other people did not.

“What about you?” Her question didn’t make as much sense as it might have if she wasn’t affecting his brain function.

“I’m not with the band,” he said automatically, pulling a ghost of a smile from her.

“You’re a cop,” she said, helping him along.

“Detective actually.” He wasn’t trying to be a dick. It was more that he’d worked hard to get where he was. She set her elbows on the table. A playful light entered her eyes.

“What do you detect?”

“Satanic and ritualistic homicides.” Huh. She didn’t even flinch.

“I wasn’t aware there was such a high number of those types of murders that it required a special title. Are you the only one or is there an entire division?”

Against his will, Trey’s lips twisted. “Unfortunately, there is a need for such a title. There’re three of us. I’m not sure it counts as an entire division. Louisiana is a hotbed of all things satanic and ritualistic. You’re likely to run across anything here.”

Her gaze moved over his face, but her expression remained blank. “You do look tired.” Before he had time to react, she added, “I’ll have to take your word on the matter. I only moved here two weeks ago.”

He opened his mouth to ask more. Instead, something entirely different popped out. “You’re beautiful.” She blinked. Her surprise evident. There was no way she was as shocked as he was. He hadn’t meant to say it. It was true, of course, but it had still slipped past his lips without his permission.

“Thank you.” Arbor’s response sounded more questioning than automatic. He snorted. She blushed. The sight fascinated him. Their knees brushed making Trey realize somehow, he’d moved his chair closer to hers.

My Review ♥♥♥♥ (Four Sated Hearts)

This book was Scorching HOT. I don’t think I read a book this hot in quite a while. And it was just my favor of everything. YUM.

I also really liked how this book was executed. There is present mixed with past in an engaging and not confusing way. It was just enough to past to give you hints about the future without bogging the story down. It kept me interested throughout and by gosh, NO INSTA LOVE. Thank goodness for that.

So why not give this book FIVE Sated Hearts.

I guess the story didn’t wrap up basic questions. And not the who, what, why, when and where. Those were answered, although the where is a little iffy, but I’ll excuse that based on the story.

But there were question brought up by the story that are never resolved. So as not give spoilers, I’ll be a bit cryptic. Those who read should guess what I’m talking about. What was the Bargain? What was the point to the 2 offers? What was up with the apartment next door? And what was up with the walls, whispers and man?

Although we get a satisfactory resolution to the story, those questions above which are brought up to intrigue you or confuse you in the story are never answered.

But the heat level in this book was off the charts. It was HOT, really smoking, fan your ass HOT. However, I will say that every time we get to the point of sheathing the sword so to speak, the actions sort of ends there. Not so much fade to black, but I felt like I missed out a bit considering this is erotica. Also, the m/m only scratched the surface and I seriously longed for more. I wish I would have gotten a heck of a lot more. And it felt more like a teaser to M/M. This because I’m a serious m/m fan.

Overall, I read this at 2am and don’t regret staying up til dawn to finish. Maybe, we can get more because I would love the answers to my questions and more M/M action. I recommend this to anyone who likes f/m, ménage and a dash of m/m. Great hot story.

My book boyfriend Killian.

Black Widow (Elemental Assassin #12) by Jennifer Estep

Black Widow (Elemental Assassin #12) by Jennifer Estep

This is an adult urban fantasy novel (Rated NC-17)

 ♥♥♥1/2
(Three and a half Spider Hearts)

Book Summary

There’s nothing worse than a cruel, cunning enemy with time to kill—and my murder to plan.

With wicked Fire elemental Mab Monroe long gone, you’d think I could finally catch a break. But someone’s always trying to take me down, either as Gin Blanco or my assassin alter-ago. Now along comes the Spider’s new arch-nemesis, the mysteriously named M. M. Monroe, who is gleefully working overtime to trap me in a sticky web of deceit.

The thing is, I’m not the only target. I can see through the tangled threads enough to know that every bit of bad luck my friends have been having lately is no accident—and that each unfortunate “coincidence” is just one more arrow drawing ever closer to hitting the real bulls-eye. Though new to Ashland, this M. M. Monroe is no stranger to irony, trying to get me, an assassin, framed for murder. Yet, as my enemy’s master plan is slowly revealed, I have a sinking feeling that it will take more than my powerful Ice and Stone magic to stop my whole life from going up in flames.

My Review

There is not a lot to say other than Gin never seems to come on top without going to the bottom. I just wish that the book started on a high note for once before she fails only to ultimately succeed.
MINOR SPOILERS AHEAD
This book had a lot of plot holes. For one, Gin in every other book listens to the stones for intruders when she enters a place. Yet this one time she didn’t. She did listen to the stones for something just not to see if someone had entered the building. It was so obvious when it happened that I knew what was coming next.
And Gin never puts a body in the pork pit. Always outside. All of a sudden she has one inside and Sophia doesn’t take care of it right away. Again, it was obvious what was then going to happen next.
Gin breaks out of captivity and she’s drives and parks in front of the pork pit with people chasing her??? Really. She’s always said she has hidey holes all over the city. How obvious to go there.
And the list goes on. And this author is better than that. She could have tightened up the holes even using the same basic road map. All and all, I was disappointed.
The thing is memory is short. And six months from now, I would have forgotten my disappointment or the reasons why and I’ll buy again. And as long as it delivers, this memory may continue to remain forgotten.
I still recommend this series on a whole. It’s good.
My book boyfriend Owen.

Mai Tai'd Up (Cocktail #4) by Alice Clayton

Mai Tai'd Up (Cocktail #4) by Alice Clayton

This is an adult contemporary romance

 ♥♥♥♥
 (Four Fun Hearts)

Book Summary

Looking for the perfect mix of smart, sexy, and sassy? Mai Tai’d Up continues New York Times bestselling author Alice Clayton’s Cocktail series, which began with Wallbanger and continued with Rusty Nailed and Screwdrivered.

The gossip mill in the seaside community of Monterey is churning about Chloe Patterson, the newcomer who is starting a sanctuary for rescued pit bulls. It’s rumored that she’s a former beauty queen (true) who ditched her fiancé the morning of their wedding (also true). And that while she’s not looking for a new man, the good-looking local veterinarian has his eye on her. Absolutely, positively true.

When Lucas Campbell isn’t at the family veterinary clinic, he’s paddle boarding in Monterey Bay. Recently single, he’s definitely not in the market for a new relationship, but he still can’t resist taking a second, third, and fourth look at the recent arrival of Miss Golden State.

Neither Lucas nor Chloe has any interest in being tied down. Being tied up, however—now there’s a thought. But are a few Mai Tais, a moonlit night, and the music of Frank Sinatra enough to allow them both to forget their past? Let’s hope Ol’ Blue Eyes knows what he’s doing.

Mix one part tiki, one part kinky, and a splash of old black magic matchmaking, and it’s time to be . . . Mai Tai’d Up.

My Review

Okay, let me just say I wasn’t a lover of Wallbanger. I thought it overused classic funny lines without using then in a new and inventive way. I also didn’t care for wanting a guy after hearing him through the wall, but let us not go there. This isn’t a rehash of that book. I do miss the cat though.
So let me just say that I didn’t read the other two books in the series and found I didn’t have to in order to enjoy this one.
This story was really cute and predictable, but I found myself wanting to see it all enfold anyway.
My only problem in this story was Lucas. He was kind of a dick in the story. VERY MINOR SPOILERS ALERT. First, he leaves our leading lady at some point without even arranging for her a ride home or inquiring if she’d be okay without him to drive her home seeing as he brought her to this particular place. Then the heroine doesn’t even call him on it. I wasn’t even mad so much as the why he left her. They were friends after all. But not caring that he’s leaving her without wheels to get home (she does get a ride) pissed me off. I’m hoping that this was an oversight of the author and her beta readers didn’t call her on it. But for me, it was a big point against Lucas.
Then there was his reaction to the “reveal”. I’ll leave it at that. It was a bit over the top considering how he comes back to his senses later. And again, our push over heroine says nothing and takes it. No wonder she almost married someone she didn’t love. I guess it’s possible that’s a character flaw, but that would mean that our heroine had no growth in the story and continues not to stand up for herself. And that’s not good for a story either. Unless that’s part of the plot. In this case, the character was supposed to have grown.
END of Minor SPOILERS.
For those two reasons, I couldn’t give it perfect marks. But it does inspire me to give this author another try.
Without much choice, Lucas is my book boyfriend.

Saving Poughkeepsie (The Poughkeepsie Brotherhood #3) by Debra Anastasia

Saving Poughkeepsie (The Poughkeepsie Brotherhood #3) by Debra Anastasia
This is an adult contemporary romance. (Rated NC-17)
 ♥♥♥♥
(Four Amazing Hearts)
Book Summary
Beckett Taylor’s quest to be a better man has brought Eve Hartt back into his life, but sometimes it feels like they’re bound together with barbed wire. Though he longs to love her without causing pain, the wreckage of their past continues to crash down around them.

Yet with the help of this brothers—and for his brothers—Beckett won’t stop trying. He’s determined to make them all a family, to make a life they want to live, and to make Poughkeepsie a place that’s safe to live it.

He can feel their futures balanced precariously on his shoulders: Blake and Livia and their children, Cole and Kyle and the new baby they’ve just brought home, and Eve…always Eve. He wants their dreams to be real. But murderers don’t just get Happily Ever After handed to them. They have to wrench it away from Satan himself.

Good thing Beckett is prepared to do just that. After all, saving Poughkeepsie is the only way his story ends.

Prepare your heart and your head for a wild ride in this final installment of the Poughkeepsie Brotherhood series. Debra Anastasia does not disappoint as she weaves the last chapter of a story that blends true love, turbulent emotions, and life’s harsh realities into an uplifting tale that calls to the good in each of us.
My Review

I read the first book years ago and immediately fell in love with Blake. And I was clamoring for the second book, which felt more like Beckett’s story. And here we are at the third.
This story also felt more like the Beckett story and I wish we would have had more time with Cole. And also more time with my man Blake, although there were plenty of sexy moments all around.
Mostly, I loved the theme of the story. Redemption. I love Beckett and the falls he’s taken to make everyone else okay, which was why Eve pissed me off several times throughout this story. But I should have had faith in her that I didn’t. Enough said.
I missed Cole’s story. I felt like this series became the Beckett series after book one. As much as I loved him, I thought each of the “brothers” brought something to the table. And although, we get larger glimpses of Blake and Cole in this book, it was largely about Beckett.
There were some other horrible things that happened in the book, I wished didn’t. But I’m glad the author wrapped up the story with other possibly for the future. Otherwise, I would have been pissed. Cryptic, I know. You have to read to understand.
This series is so worth the read. If you haven’t read, you are truly missing out. It’s one for the record books. Personally, I wish I had a signed copy of the books for my bookshelf. It would sit proudly next to the other select few that grace my shelves.
Now go forth and buy this one. You won’t regret.
My book boyfriend Blake.

Blue Lily, Lily Blue (The Raven Cycle #3) by Maggie Stiefvater

Blue Lily, Lily Blue (The Raven Cycle #3) by Maggie Stiefvater

This is a somewhat of a young adult paranormal fantasy novel (Rated PG-13)

 ♥♥♥
(Three and that's being generous Hearts)

Book Summary

There is danger in dreaming. But there is even more danger in waking up.

Blue Sargent has found things. For the first time in her life, she has friends she can trust, a group to which she can belong. The Raven Boys have taken her in as one of their own. Their problems have become hers, and her problems have become theirs.

The trick with found things though, is how easily they can be lost.

Friends can betray.
Mothers can disappear.
Visions can mislead.
Certainties can unravel.

My Review

SUCH A HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT
I’m a Maggie Stiefvater fan. I’ll admit, I was disappointed in her series ending of Shiver, Linger, Forever and haven’t read Sinner. And I’ll admit because of that series ender, I’m concerned at how this series will end. But Maggie’s writing is so stunning that I find myself drawn to her construction of a sentence which for to me is like a paint stroke on an amazing canvas. In fact, I loved Scorpio Races.
Alas, I thought this series had outdone those. I should admit I haven’t read her Fey series. Anyway, the first two books in the Raven Cycle were HOME RUNS. This one was soooo not.
So much to say… Where to begin….

I'll first say that where I normally love her writing, this time the prose, metaphors all felt forced. They didn't have the quality I've found in the other two books in the series. And I'm no writer, so you'll have to forgive my glaring grammar errors and how I have the gall to berate an author when I'm not one.
I guess I’ll say with all that happened in the last book, I assumed there would be more. I know this book isn’t about romance the way Shiver was. But, the revelations were startling, although for me not unexpected. And this book, there was silence all around. Okay, so I don’t need romance in a story. But I need a plot. And there was NONE…
The characters in this book went and did mundane things in their lives and took us on that boring journey. We had a brief moments were truths could have been spoken between characters and they remained mute. We had a little action but not really much. I could have done without the page or so of explanation while a yard was cleaned up, while a protest happened. Nothing much of consequence happens in the book. When things did occur like a law suit, it was sadly without much in the way of satisfying fact finding or gratification in the outcome. These interesting things were cut short.
We learned precious little until the end. And I must say I was disappointed as a somewhat of a triangle was formed with Blue’s mom and we got NOTHING on how that was resolved or what two men might have said to each other.
It was flat out boring. And if not for the expectation that something would occur in this book, I would have DNF’d it. Only to get barely anything for the time wasted on reading. I will finish the series. I just hope we aren’t left with the glaring OPENING of a series ending we got in the Mercy Falls Wolves series or whatever Shiver, Linger, Forever was.
My book boyfriend Gansey.

River's Revenge (The Sanctuary Series 3) by Charlotte Abel

River's Revenge (The Sanctuary Series 3) by Charlotte Abel

This is a new adult paranormal romance novel (Rated NC-17)

♥♥♥♥1/2
(Four and a half Jonathan Hearts)

Book Summary

Jonathan and River are reunited but must hide the true nature of their relationship until all the carefully woven lies supporting the revolution start to unravel. Nothing but the truth can save them. Not only must they convince the citizens of New Eden that the prophecy is real, they must also prove Jonathan is the true son of Ephraim or face certain execution.

My Review

This series is just so well developed and unique. I love the Native American aspects woven into the tale in a believable way. I love that the world building of “shape shifters” was made new and fresh. I just loved this story from beginning to end.
If you love paranormal romance, you must pick this one up. New Adult is hot and I love that we get the juicers bits of a story that you can’t get in YA.
What’s most. I loved all the character. Okay, I hated a few. But I loved that I could “feel” so much by all the characters to care enough about what they did or didn’t do.
The forbidden aspects (which aren’t taboo) ratchet up the angst and smexy time. And the plot continues to thicken before it finally resolves. I hate to say goodbye to this series because I loved it so. And I can’t wait to read more by this author.
If you love paranormal romance and/or urban fantasy, I think you’ll surely enjoy this series.
My book boyfriend is Jonathan.

 ♥♥♥♥1/2
(Four and a half Dave Hearts)
Book Summary
For best friends, Candy and Libby, money is tight with hardly enough to cover their living expenses. When they are desperate for grocery money, the girls bet on their pool playing skills to add to their income.

A simple wager on a quiet winter evening has devastating results, with a stalker determined to kill them both. With Libby in the hospital after a vicious attack, and Candy being pursued by the same stalker, she vows to find Libby's attacker.

What she finds is Dave, an old friend with a secret past filled with misfortune. Will Dave’s past provide the answer to all of Candy’s problems or will it become Candy’s worst nightmare realized?
My Review

Nancy just writes romance like no other. If she had more smexy time, I would call her the next Nora Roberts. Alas, let’s get into this book.
This book sets the stage with two girls somewhat down on their luck. And from there things get crazy. And the story moves fast never letting go. And hold on to the rails, because you’ll be wondering who done it, will love burst through and with all that angst can they just do it already, lol. JK.
Anyway, I read straight through which means a real winner for me. In fact, I’m hoping there will be a spin off book with one of the characters.
A little birdy told me there will be…

This New Adult romance is more than just will he love me or will she love him. It’s a complicated story about retribution and family ties. It also has heart stopping moments that hurt the heart.

So don’t wait, pick this puppy up. It’s an excellent read.
My book boyfriend Dave.
