Eighty Days Amber (Eighty Days : Companion #1) by Vina Jackson

Eighty Days Amber  (Eighty Days : Companion #1) by Vina Jackson

This is an adult erotica romance. (Rated NC-17)

 ♥♥♥1/2
(Three and a Half Amber Hearts)

Book Summary

A companion book to the Eighty Days trilogy. I'd always liked bad boys. And as I grew up, they became bad men . . .

In her youth, Russian dancer Luba fell for a bad man; a handsome but dangerous rare amber dealer who would disappear for months on end but expect Luba to drop everything when he called. Despite everything Luba could not deny her attraction to the seductive Chey, but their passionate, turbulent relationship came to and end when Luba fled Russia having discovered a shocking secret about her lover.

From elite private clubs in New Orleans to the London mansion of an enigmatic rockstar, Viggo Franck, Luba embarks on a journey of self-discovery and embraces the exciting, enticing experiences her new life as a dancer brings. Her adventures introduce her to a fiery, flame-haired violinist, Summer, and Lauralynn, a woman with decidedly dark desires. But can this new life ever truly satisfy Luba, or will she forever crave the one man she knows isn't good for her.

My Review

Having felt somewhat cheated at the end of the Eighty Days series, I was happy to read the companion pieces. And we do get more of Summer and Dominik although not in starring roles.
I hadn’t remembered Luba very well from the original series. I remembered some things and had forgotten others like Viggo and how she fit there. This book kind of takes us from Luba’s beginnings to how she fit in the series. There is a lot in her life. And although it makes perfect sense, I didn’t find much after Chey very interesting. It just dragged for me for the most part. Although there were times like the private dancing I found interesting. And yeah, that ending, although it straddled the line of believability added a nice bang at the end.
However, Luba’s life was pretty sad and dull and it read that way. I’m not sure if anything could have been done to make it more interesting. I really rooted for Chey and wished he had more page time.
Anyway, as a huge fan of this series, I thought it important to read. I might have enjoyed better if I read right after the first three books. I still enjoy these authors. I have Eighty Shades White to read and will do so soon.
My Book Boyfriend Chey.

And One Last Thing ... by Molly Harper

And One Last Thing ... by Molly Harper

This is an adult contemporary romance novel (Rated NC-17)

 ♥♥♥♥1/2
(Four and a Half Lovely Hearts)

Book Summary

"If Singletree’s only florist didn’t deliver her posies half-drunk, I might still be married to that floor-licking, scum-sucking, receptionist-nailing hack-accountant, Mike Terwilliger."

Lacey Terwilliger’s shock and humiliation over her husband’s philandering prompt her to add some bonus material to Mike’s company newsletter: stunning Technicolor descriptions of the special brand of "administrative support" his receptionist gives him. The detailed mass e-mail to Mike’s family, friends, and clients blows up in her face, and before one can say "instant urban legend," Lacey has become the pariah of her small Kentucky town, a media punch line, and the defendant in Mike’s defamation lawsuit.

Her seemingly perfect life up in flames, Lacey retreats to her family’s lakeside cabin, only to encounter an aggravating neighbor named Monroe. A hunky crime novelist with a low tolerance for drama, Monroe is not thrilled about a newly divorced woman moving in next door. But with time, beer, and a screen door to the nose, a cautious friendship develops into something infinitely more satisfying.

Lacey has to make a decision about her long-term living arrangements, though. Should she take a job writing caustic divorce newsletters for paying clients, or move on with her own life, pursuing more literary aspirations? Can she find happiness with a man who tells her what he thinks and not what she wants to hear? And will she ever be able to resist saying one . . . last . . . thing?

My Review

This book starts off really somber. And I was looking for funny. For a moment I thought I might stop reading but then the author would deliver a line that would make me laugh. It’s a still a sobering read that has real issues.
There are parts of the story you just assume what’s going to happen. And most of the times I turned out to be wrong, which is always good.
I do have to say the ending was not how I would have handled things but at the same time I totally respect the Lacey for it.
Again, this is an emotional ride with highs and lows, but a lot of humorous and sexy parts to break it all up and keep you going.
Audio Review
Amanda Ronconi is awesome as always and is well suited for Molly Harper’s comedy. She knows just how to deliver a line.
Overall, I really enjoyed.

Ghost Story  (The Dresden Files #13) by Jim Butcher

This is an adult urban fantasy (Rated R)

 ♥♥♥1/2
(Three and a half Ghost Hearts)

Book Summary

The eagerly awaited new novel in the #1 New York Times bestselling Dresden Files series.

When we last left the mighty wizard detective Harry Dresden, he wasn't doing well. In fact, he had been murdered by an unknown assassin.

But being dead doesn't stop him when his friends are in danger. Except now he has nobody, and no magic to help him. And there are also several dark spirits roaming the Chicago shadows who owe Harry some payback of their own.

To save his friends-and his own soul-Harry will have to pull off the ultimate trick without any magic...

My Review

In this installment of the Dresden files (SPOILER ALERT – I figure if you’re reading you are already a fan), we come off a really big cliffy. I can honestly say I wasn’t sure where this book was headed.
I give it to the author for his imagination and his world building. This was interesting and frustrating at the same time. Harry is limited in what he can do and communicate as a ghost as you can imagine which annoyed me.
I knew who killed him long before Harry realized it even though….
I also knew that he wasn’t really dead. For a while I wondered if the author had hoped to end the series and was talked into continuing because it was so convoluted this story and the ending.
My other disappointment is the back and forth between Harry and Karen. I hoped from the last book things would pick up where they left off and this book just didn’t afford us the time to get into it.
I also missed Thomas and Michael.
Audio Review
I was most concerned about a new narrator. However John Glover did a decent job. At times he even sounded like James Marsters. But in the end, I’ve come to love Harry as played by James, so that made it hard. But again, it wasn’t as bad as I thought it might be.
All and all, my book boyfriend is Harry.

My Review

Are you looking for a good book to read? One that has angst, romance and  emotional pull. Look no further. This book is it.
The setting makes me want to head to the mountains and find me a man like Ronin. Oh he makes my mouth water.
But this story is more than the hot man candy (although that doesn’t hurt). This story is about a girl struggling through trying to find her place in life and love. She makes mistakes, but don’t we all. And her journey is sure worth the read.
Check this one out. The little conversations that happen are the seeds that get planted to bloom into the strength they both will needs to find happiness.
Go forth and read good people. And don’t forget to pick this one up.

My book boyfriend Ronin.

Perry Road (Revolution, #1) by Emi Gayle ~ TOUR ~ Review/Excerpt/Giveaway

Perry Road (Revolution, #1) by Emi Gayle

This is a new adult dystopian novel (Rated PG-13)

 ♥♥♥♥
(Four Zane Hearts)

Book Summary

In 2132, “We the people …” means nothing, and it hasn’t for a hundred years.

Like all the citizens of the American Union, eighteen-year-old Erianna Keating is not to ask questions. She is not to believe anything except what the A.U. tells her. More importantly, she’s not supposed to know what she doesn’t know, nor that she’s a pawn.

Like everyone else, though, she is, and like everyone else, she is a hundred percent oblivious to what’s going on.

Or is she? Are they?

Erianna thinks going to Perry Road and joining the national registration program is her next step toward adulthood; the 2132 candidates for adult-classification, though, are in for a big surprise. Especially Erianna.

Thanks to Zane Warren, an awkward but hot guy who won’t shut up about a history that doesn’t—or shouldn’t—matter anymore, Erianna will know. Will learn. That includes finding out what actually happens after registration and doing something, anything, about it.

Fixing what went wrong, what caused the U.S.A. to split into two countries, though, is not on Erianna’s bucket list, but as she faces her future, she must decide whether to fall in line with the American Union’s plan for her, or to consider that Zane might not be wrong, and the time for revolution begins now.

Excerpt

“Well?” Cam asks.

For some reason, I don’t want her to know. I want to find out by myself if I’m going to get a real life, or if I’m destined to wear hand-me-downs from twenty years ago until I’m ninety. I want to prepare, to plan, to cry if we don’t get to go together, or if I’m not like her.

I’m not, of course—in any way like her. Who am I kidding?

After what seems like hours, but is only seconds, I say, “Nothing.”

“Damn.” She throws her arms up in the air. “Figures. And it’s almost five. So, you know, I gotta go. Mom’s sure I’m going to be chosen to pop out babies, like she is, so she wants to make sure I know how to cook before the fake chefs get ahold of me to ‘teach’ me.” Cam gives me a dramatic eye roll and places a hand to her forehead. “Like, oh, my Oz, Eri, you know? We have people to cook for us for a reason. Duh! If I learn to cook, what job am I going to give someone like your mom, you know? And why would I get picked to be fat and ugly when I look like this?” She bats at her blonde curls.

Wanting to change the subject—to anything but the woes of Cam’s perfect life—I walk to her, give her a hug and a quick pat on the back. “I’ll … call you when I get it, ‘kay?”

“You better. We only have two days to shop for the perfect outfit. Why couldn’t your birthday be October twenty-ninth instead of December?” She snatches up her coat—preparation for the winter blast that will tear into uncovered skin. “And … you’re not a fluke. You will get in the white house, and when January first comes, we’ll be official!” She boogies her way out, hips wiggling. For someone who’s not happy about the prospect of becoming a baby factory, she’s awfully chipper.

I know it’s because she’s waiting to hear my fate. To prove I’m not a fluke. To validate my relevance as her friend—the one girl Cam can give backhanded compliments, and, for that matter, insults all day long, and still walk back in with a smile as if nothing happened.

Cam walks through the hallway and says goodbye to my mom who’s probably still working at her makeshift office in our miniature kitchen—trying, I assume, to avoid the whole days’ events. As much as Cam wants me to not be a fluke, my mom wants me to be one. If I’m like her, nothing will change. Like Cam, I’ll be the same old Erianna, just one day older and as useless as all the other flukes in the world.

The front door opens and closes, and I move to the window. Once Cam disappears from view, and only then, I turn over my P-Comm and touch the one message that sits inside.

The one that says: “Invitation for Erianna Price Keating.”

Perry Road is Now Available!

My Review

Dystopian is fast becoming one of my favorite genres. Although this genre stays mostly on the same theme of government takeover, I still found this novel unique. I really enjoyed this journey with Erianna, although I must say I didn’t like her very much. But I didn’t like Katiness from Hunger Games very much either and I found that series to be five stars.
I was very much annoyed with Erianna’s choices and her immaturity. But it didn’t take away the enjoyably of the story because I felt the author sold me on the character believability in her actions.
I’m still figuring out Zane. He comes off a bit too good to be true. I’m waiting for the shoe to drop there.
We were left with a few questions, but I wouldn’t call this a killer cliffhanger for those who hate that. Just a few unanswered questions that leave you wanting more.
I really like where this story is headed and I’m eager to read the next installment.
My book boyfriend is Zane.

About the Author

I had a really great bio in my head around midnight one night …. right before I fell asleep and it disappeared into the nothingness of unconsciousness. Bummer. So here’s something less well thought out. I want to be young again, so I’m kinda sorta living it again. At least on paper. You see, I write paranormal romance. Now, that stuff can get really hot, and really gritty and well … mine does. But! My characters are teenagers, 18 and under. Like I was once … and want to be again. Why would I want to be a teenager again? Geez. Because! If you met the man of your dreams at 14 was engaged to him at 19 and married him at 20, wouldn’t YOU want to do all that over again? Especially if you were still in love with him? I mean, c’mon! It’s love! That’s why I write, too. You see… just because you pass a certain age doesn’t mean you forget what it was like to be 14, 15, etc. Actually, because I kinda grew up with my husband, we both still feel like the 14 and 17 year old kids we once were. So that’s where I’m coming from. You might think it’s totally lame, but you know what? That’s ok! Maybe you’ll like my other me instead. ;)

Out of Breath (Breathing #3) by Rebecca Donovan

Out of Breath  (Breathing #3) by Rebecca Donovan

This is a NEW Adult romance novel (Rated NC-17)

 ♥♥♥1/2
(Three Evan Hearts)

Book Summary

Emma leaves Weslyn and everyone in it behind to attend Stanford University, just as she always intended. A shell of her former self, she is not the same girl. She is broken, and the only way that she’ll be whole again is through forgiveness. Emma must find a way to forgive herself and recognize her own worth before she can receive the love she deserves. This final installment will have readers holding their breath until the very last page.

My Review

Okay, I knew going in, with Emma at college there were going to be some changes to scenery, characters etc. But that doesn’t mean I had to like it. And I didn’t. Still, I must say this author pulled out all my emotions once again. I have to give her props for that. However, know that with a series that made me feels so much, in turn, I'll have much to say.
SPOILERS
I missed Evan for most of the first half of the book. And I swear to you, I was wishing for Evan’s POV since he wasn’t with us. And was happy to find it but wish it came earlier. I guess the author had her reasons for waiting until almost the half of the book before he’s brought in, but still. I would have loved his POV earlier because honestly, the truths we got about what happened to him were so flimsy, I’m still not certain as too what all happened between Evan and Annalise. (sex?)
Sorry, I listened to this. Not sure of the spelling of names.
Anyway, the first half of the book was boring to me. And not because it didn’t have entertainment value. But the author has to anticipate that without Sara and Evan, the readers would be bored. She tried to draw me in and make me love Cole. And I swear, I almost did. But when he couldn’t deal with Emma’s freak out, I knew he wasn’t the one.
And was anyone else pissed that she was so free to have rabbit sex with Cole, yet Evan she couldn’t. Yes, I got it. All she had with Cole was sex. And it was meaningless for her and all it was to her was to make her feel and not feel. I got it. But damn it, she and Evan loved each other. And yes, sex complicates things. But who better to complicate it with than someone you love. Don’t preach to me. I know they didn’t want to hurt each other. But they were already hurting.
And the biggest pisser is that the Epilogue, which was a really a chapter in the book. Epilogue means that the author knows that the readers have patiently gone through the story to a poetic ending. And I got that too. She wanted an artistic ending. Yeah well, don’t piss on your fans and readers. They won’t follow you into another journey if they can’t trust you. And honestly, back on topic, an epilogue is a bonus. It’s an insight into the lead character(s) future that gives hope or a view on how things were. In romance, it’s using a HEA. Like let me see if they got married, going to get married, have kids or not. Where are they working or still going to school? We deserved that, yet that’s not what we got.
Sorry, I just wasn’t interested in her cousins. That wasn’t an insight into anything. I felt cheated. I went through this whole adventure with tears, rage, and everything in between and that’s what I got. I’m pissed the hell off and want a refund. I can’t recommend this series to anyone.
END OF SPOILERS
Audio Review
Kate Rudd continued to do a fabulous job of making me feel the story.
Overall, I’m unsure. My hope is the author comes back with another book. Even if it’s with another character so we can get the Epilogue we deserve. Learn from the author of Captive in the Dark. I loved her Epilogue and needed it for closure. Please, give us what we need.
My book boyfriend is Evan, but I’m giving you Cole.
