Book Summary

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Karen Marie Moning comes the first book in her hotly anticipated new urban paranormal trilogy, set in the world of her blockbuster Fever series.

The year is 1 AWC—After the Wall Crash. The Fae are free and hunting us. It’s a war zone out there, and no two days are alike. I’m Dani O’Malley, the chaos-filled streets of Dublin are my home, and there’s no place I’d rather be.

Dani “Mega” O’Malley plays by her own set of rules—and in a world overrun by Dark Fae, her biggest rule is: Do what it takes to survive. Possessing rare talents and the all-powerful Sword of Light, Dani is more than equipped for the task. In fact, she’s one of the rare humans who can defend themselves against the Unseelie. But now, amid the pandemonium, her greatest gifts have turned into serious liabilities.

Dani’s ex–best friend, MacKayla Lane, wants her dead, the terrifying Unseelie princes have put a price on her head, and Inspector Jayne, the head of the police force, is after her sword and will stop at nothing to get it. What’s more, people are being mysteriously frozen to death all over the city, encased on the spot in sub-zero, icy tableaux.

When Dublin’s most seductive nightclub gets blanketed in hoarfrost, Dani finds herself at the mercy of Ryodan, the club’s ruthless, immortal owner. He needs her quick wit and exceptional skill to figure out what’s freezing Fae and humans dead in their tracks—and Ryodan will do anything to ensure her compliance.

Dodging bullets, fangs, and fists, Dani must strike treacherous bargains and make desperate alliances to save her beloved Dublin—before everything and everyone in it gets iced.

My Review

Talk about AWESOME, AMAZING, GREAT, SUPENDOUS.  Yes, I really liked the book. KMM is fast becoming one of my favorite authors of all time. Her Highlander series is great and her Fever series even better. I wasn’t sure how she was going to pull it off but she did.  I had high expectations and she delivered.
How do you write a YA novel with a 14yro old lead and still make it super hot without crossing any lines? KMM found a way.  Boy did she find a way.  Let me just say, I was sucked into this story and didn’t want to be let out. I was reeling for days after and couldn’t read much because I wanted more of this.
Okay, I wasn’t a big Dani fan after the Fever series. But I like the girl now. She has spunk and determination and a heart of gold believe it or not.
Then there is Ryodan. How can anyone get better than Barrons. Well, Ryodan surely comes close. I do have to say, I’m not liking his current relationship. I was hoping he would hold out, but we will see.
Christian MacKelter is just great too. I mean, I was pulling for him the whole time. I can’t blame anything he is or does on him. Damn you Mac, lol.
Dancer, he’s my guy and I hope he will get the HEA he wants in the end. For whatever reason as much as I like the other two, I like him the best.
Cruce.  As much as I like him in Fever, I could have done without his part of the story in this one.  But it didn’t hurt.
Overall, I really liked this. Do you have to read the Fever series first. No, but it’s probably best you do.

Audio
Phil Gigante and Natalie Ross do the audio.  First Natalie bugged me from the beginning. I just didn’t feel her as Dani. And some of her females sound the same and it was hard to distinguish at times.  However, somehow, by the end, I loved it. Second Phil is just awesome.  More importantly this book and the Fever series are innovative with the 2 narrators. They don’t switch off, they blend.  So Phil does ALL the male parts and Natalie all the female.  Thus they are acting together.  GREAT!!!!! I wish more books would do this.

My Book Boyfriend is Dancer.

  1. I didn't go in with high expectations, maybe that is the difference. And the audio was fantastic after I got used to it. Believe me, in the beginning, I was all Ryodan. But he pissed me off at some point. I haven't forgiven him yet, lol. Still the guys in this book are great. Love Dancer, Christian is great too.

  2. I totoally agree with you, this book was amazing! I actually hope Dani ends up with Dancer, I think he is perfect for her, even though the other two are also interesting. And I loved reading Dani's point of view!
