Book Summary

After leaving Society and desperately searching for the Rising—and each other—Cassia and Ky have found what they were looking for, but at the cost of losing each other yet again: Cassia has been assigned to work for the Rising from within Society, while Ky has been stationed outside its borders. But nothing is as predicted, and all too soon the veil lifts and things shift once again.

In this gripping conclusion to the #1 New York Times-bestselling Matched trilogy, Cassia will reconcile the difficulties of challenging a life too confining, seeking a freedom she never dreamed possible, and honoring a love she cannot live without.

My Review

Honestly, this book made the D in Dystopian equal Depressing. But not just this author.  It’s seems to be a common theme in this genre.
This book was really boring. And I can’t give my feelings on this one in a spoil free review.  So be warned.
SPOILERS Zone
This book is told in three POVs.  And there is good reason for this.  Mostly because they are all apart from each other a good portion of the book.  A few times they pass like ships in the night, but with no real substance.  And I found Xander and Ky’s POvs during this time somewhat interesting. I found Cassia’s POV irrelevant.
For the first half of the book we learn nothing really with the exception of a few discoveries with Xander.  And then Ky’s POV, he’s developing a relationship with Indie (sorry, I listened, I don’t know the exact spelling of her name if that’s wrong).  And honestly even by the end of the book, I’m not quite sure he wouldn’t have chosen her over Cassia if she’d lived.
And then the one HEA with Cassia leaves one of the guys empty.  Yes, he gets his HEA too, but it felt forced.
Anyway, the real action didn’t start until all three finally get back together in the last 30 or 40% of the book, only for one of them to be taken out of the story.  I don’t know. The story either dragged, was depressing, or overall boring.  I almost felt like I would have been better off reading the spoilers. I probably would have been fine.

Overall, eh, it was barely okay.  If you are a fan, go ahead and see this thing to the end. Otherwise, I can’t really recommend this as a whole. There is a great potential and interesting idea for a story.  I just don’t think it was executed as well as it could have been. But I’m just one person.

Audio Review
Read by Kate Simses, Jack Riccobono and Matt Burnes.  The book is in three POVs and they choose to have three narrators. They all did a good job.  The one thing, the two guys sounded similar.  So sometimes it wasn’t clear at first which POV I was getting.

If I had to choose a book boyfriend, it would be Xander but I’ll give you Ky too.

  1. I've heard good things about this series, but I dislike Dystopian for the very reason you cited, Terri. I've been on the fence, but I think I'll skip it. There are just so many books to read (and write *grins*) that I don't want to waste time on mediocre.

Maybe someday I'll catch the movie if it comes out, lol.

    1. There was a lot of potential in the idea of the story/series. The ending just lack a lot of luster for me. I felt my time was wasted. :-(

  2. I made it through Matched and have Crossed but have not made myself read it yet. I love the Dystopian genre but not when it gets overwhelmingly depressing. There has to be a strong spark of hope or fight. Not sure when I'll get around to continuing this series.

    1. Crossed wasn't too too bad. It left me wanting to read this one. Wish I'd listened to others and not read the series entirely.

  3. So--how exactly does it end? I was too unhappy with Crossed to read Matched and from what I can tell I don't think I'm gonna enjoy Reached. Who ends up with whom? Sounds like Ky and Cassia---which I don't like. But if so, how? What about Xander? If you don't want to put that info on your blog you can email me---if you're willing to write it down.
