Book Summary

 

Eighteen year old Harper has grown up under her career Marine of a father's thumb. Ready to live life her own way and experience things she's only ever heard of from the jarheads in her father's unit; she's on her way to college at San Diego State University.

Thanks to her new roommate, Harper is introduced to a world of parties, gorgeous guys, family and emotions. Some she wasn't expecting yet, and others she never knew she was missing.

She finds herself being torn in two as she quickly falls in love with her boyfriend Brandon, and her roommate's brother Chase. Covered in tattoos, known for fighting in the Underground and ridiculously muscled...they're exactly what she was always warned to stay away from, but just what she needs. Despite their dangerous looks and histories, both adore and would do anything for Harper, including stepping back if it means she's happy.

Her first year away is turning out to be near perfect, but one weekend of giving in to heated passion will change everything.

My Review

 

I heard a lot of things about this book coming in.  And most of them happened. However, I don’t always choose the bad boy while reading. Every book is different for me.  Sometime the bad boy does it for me and other times not.  Here I fell for Brandon.  So, although I was deeply hurt by the vents that transpired in the book, I would have rooted for Brandon no matter what.

The reason my rating for the book is so low is mainly because of insta love.  I despise it.  I don’t think 2 days or even 2 weeks you can be in love with someone.  You may think you’re in love, but you’re not there yet.  And this is true, in this book.  Because if she were truly in love, I don’t care what hot guy crosses your path, you won’t see him.  I’ve been there done that.  I know what love is.  So, she wasn’t in love.  Therefore, I find this a flaw in the story. I’m not sure why there is this need to say I love you so quickly in a story.  Why not, “I’m falling in love.” It makes so much difference.

Anyway, off my soap box. My other problem in the story, SPOILER ZONE, is that she told everyone and their grandmother about her condition except the one person to whom it mattered. Even his parent, come on. And everyone let her not tell him.  That just bugged me more than the insta love. 

Oh, and it did remind me a lot of Beautiful Disaster and a bit of Easy.  But that didn’t bother me as much as the other two things.

Thus my reason for the rating. Otherwise, this book was interesting, drama filled, and everything I really love in a good book. I look forward to reading more from this author.  I had the pleasure of doing a Q&A with her on the Fifty Shades Support Group on Goodreads, I’m a MOD for.  Super sweet and took the questions like a champ. 

Go get this one ladies. It’s worth it.
