♥♥1/2
(Two and a Half Hearts)

With each smoldering encounter, their shared hunger only increases. If they can defeat the sinister enemy that stands between them, will Sabine make the ultimate sacrifice for her demon? Or will the proud king lay down his crown and arms to save his sorceress?

My Review

I really love this series and was looking forward to Rydstrom’s book. For such a regal man, I envisioned a great story. Instead, I got something that crossed even my morals.

THIS WILL HAVE SOME SPOILERS
So, I don’t agree with rape whether it’s done to a girl or a guy. And that’s what this book feels like to me. I had a DNF with Larrisa Ione’s Lethal Rider (although the rape occurs in previous book towards the end if I remember correctly ). I somehow trudged through this one only because Rydstrom was told exactly what was going to happen to him and why. Therefore, I felt somewhat better. Where as in the other book, almost same scenario he begged her to stop she didn’t. I couldn’t read more for him to fall in love with her later.

That takes me to my moral dilemma with this book and the other. How can a guy fall in love with a woman after being violated? What are we telling women today? If you are raped, hope that you will fall in love with the culprit because his greater purpose was for you to have his child. REALLY?
I don’t get how women could write this. Obviously, these women have never been violated before otherwise they wouldn’t write such stupid stuff.
Still, after the horrible first half, I love that Rystrom turned the tables on her which somehow made it better. Still, I can’t give this book anymore stars. It’s just wrong on too many levels.
Audio Review
Robert Petkoff continues to do a bang up job. I love his narration.

Shadow and Bone (The Grisha #1) by Leigh Bardugo

Shadow and Bone  (The Grisha #1) by Leigh Bardugo

This is a New Adult/Young Adult paranormal romance novel (Rated R)

♥♥♥1/2
(Three and Half Hearts)

Book Summary

The Shadow Fold, a swathe of impenetrable darkness, crawling with monsters that feast on human flesh, is slowly destroying the once-great nation of Ravka.

Alina, a pale, lonely orphan, discovers a unique power that thrusts her into the lavish world of the kingdom’s magical elite—the Grisha. Could she be the key to unravelling the dark fabric of the Shadow Fold and setting Ravka free?

The Darkling, a creature of seductive charm and terrifying power, leader of the Grisha. If Alina is to fulfill her destiny, she must discover how to unlock her gift and face up to her dangerous attraction to him.

But what of Mal, Alina’s childhood best friend? As Alina contemplates her dazzling new future, why can’t she ever quite forget him?

My Review
The problem with this story is that the underlying story is one that has been told a million times. Girl has a guy friend that she loves more than she believes loves her. He of course is the hot guy all the girls want and she has to sit back and wish she was his one and only. Guy of course is oblivious to this all. He’s in his own world and doesn’t know her affections. Another boy comes along and his eyes are opened.
Add to that a dash of elementals. And know, they aren’t called that. But that is basically what they are. In fact, these Geisha are really "fey" in disguise (in mind at least). Overall beautiful to perfection and rather snotty. Sounds a lot like fey to me.
So what we have is a story prettied up with different naming conventions for the world building, but all the same story. Therefore, I found nothing unique. I also found Alina far too trusting for someone who grew up in her circumstances. She should be wearier, yet she isn’t. So it takes the believability down several notches. Still, it was an engaging. And I will read on at some point. But I’m not rushing out to get the next book.
Audio Review
I love Lauren Fortgang. I think the problem is with this one, the story doesn’t really add to her uniqueness. Still she does a wonderful job.

My Review

Perfect for summer reading especially if you want to sink yourself onto the beach. As wonderful as the setting was, Georgia has a lot of going on.
This romance story takes us to a place many of us have been. The Morning After, or rather The Mourning After as the title suggest.
There are time in life we make choices, some good, some bad. But owning those choices is really the hardest part. Here in this story we feel the angst and the gripping attraction between two people as it builds then explodes. The on the edge part of the story happens when everything implodes.
The Mourning After has everything you’d look for in an awesome contemporary novel. It has passion, eye-candy, angst, up and downs, and drama. It is a pill not always easy to swallow as the pages turn, but well worth the stomach churning highs and lows as it is a fantastic read.
Pick this one up.
My book boyfriend is Tristan.

My Review

This last book really left on a cliffhanger that made the next book an instant read. Thank goodness the second book didn’t disappoint. Things got started not to long after the last book left off.
And even though I read this book back in January and have read many books since, I remember this one intently. A lot happens in this book. There is a lot of action and a continuation on a budding romance. It’s so sweet yet fierce in a way because one has to fight for the other. And the other must learn to trust or not to trust.
This is a good paranormal story with a solid message. A good message, one we can all learn from. Everyone can make mistakes. It’s what you do with that lesson after that truly counts.

My Review

This is a very unique tale. The world building set apart from anything I’ve read before. The story is engaging throughout as you wait for everything to play out.
Sometimes in books, some characters let you down. Sometimes they really surprise you. You get both in this one. I couldn’t blame Delany for what she did, and really that’s the point. We all at sometime fall short. But we have to move on from that and learn impossible lessons that build character.
This story left on a cliffy, but thank goodness the next book is available. I encourage you to read this one.
Unfortunately, I read these books back in January. And then I had some serious medical issues happen to me. On top of that, a small person decided to try and enter my password on my ipad repeatedly wiping everything. I lost this book along with the subsequent one. Therefore, I don’t have a description of Sam. I’m going to go with my gut feeling of what he looked like and hope I’m correct.

Ice Country (Country Saga #2) by David Estes

Ice Country  (Country Saga #2) by David Estes

This is a young adult dystopian novel

♥♥♥♥♥
(Five Icy Hearts)

Book Summary

Dazz, a hard-edged, fun-loving Icer, likes fighting, particularly while at his favorite watering hole. However, while recovering from a particularly bad break up, his decision to engage in a brutal pubroom brawl leads to a series of events that thrust him into a dark and mysterious scandal involving King Goff, the ice country ruler.

When his sister is abducted in the dark of night, Dazz pledges to do whatever it takes to get her back, embarking on a quest that threatens to rip apart the very fabric that's barely holding his shattered family together.

Along the way he meets a group of unlikely allies in the form of a travelling group of fire country natives. Can Dazz, when joined with his best friend, Buff, and new tan-skinned friends, defeat the King and his guards before it's too late for his sister?

My Review

Okay, I’ll admit I loved Siena from Fire Country. So I could have loved an entire series from her perspective. But alas it’s not to be. However, Siena is not gone. This whole series ties together and we do see her here in this book as well as the subsequent book. And I’m thrilled because although this series stands on its own, it will tie into another series as well.
What we have here is a book told completely from the male perspective. I love reading books from the male perspective especially ones written by a guy. Amazing insight, lol.
This book still has romance, but the action to boot. David is a genius author with this series. He creates a world all his own and one you can envision. This story is as intricate as a snowflake under the microscope, detailed and well crafted. My heart stops and freezes in this book as he keeps us on the edge.
Overall stellar and I totally forgot to put my review up months ago, but it’s never too late to pick up this series and I encourage you to do so.
