My Review

One thing I love about this author is that I don’t walk away from the story feeling like I’ve lost several brain cells, which is the case with some romance novels. The story is rich in history which I love and the characters are authentic and well developed.

My only regret is that I’m not a re-reader. One I don’t have time and too I find re-reading boring. So it took me some time to remember the first installment which I read (listened to) about a year ago. Thus, I felt lost for a short time.

I’m not sure that or if it was the writing, but the story was slow for a bit. There wasn’t much action and a lot more talk and introspection. That isn’t all bad. But I wanted to be sucked into the story from the first page and I wasn’t.

However, once things got going, they got going. And let me tell you, I didn’t want it to end. I also have to say I was surprised how things played out for the most part. The last, I suspected after the reveal of the rest. I can’t wait to gobble up the next installment. And if it’s the last, I will be sad.

Audio Review

John Michael Morgan handled the narration beautifully with all the different accents and captured the spirit of the characters with ease.

My Review

So this book starts off a little slow, which is reasonable in a new series. There is world building that needs to be done. But oh, wait. This is the same BDB world. So for me, it was slow. I’ll also admit that I didn’t like the flow between changing of POV in this book.

I think personally I missed the lessors or some side story that keeps the plot moving. That’s not exactly what we got here and it took me a while to get on board.

However, once I did, I loved it. I love all the characters especially V who is forever mine (step off). There were times where I thought his presence would have been interesting (say a specific club Butch goes to). But in the end, the story flowed well after a slow start.

I think I love Craig like a lot. He is that combination of male that turns all my buttons to red alert. Yum.

I have to hand it to this author. She made the predictable unpredictable. I was so wrapped up in the story I didn’t see the who done it. After the reveal, I was like that was so obvious. But JRW did a wonderful job of not making me see it. Which is a feat.

And oh Lassiter. I love him too. (Not as much as V). You  will have some laugh out loud moments and maybe some sad ones. But definitely super hot ones.

I should mention I'm not sure where the title fits into this story. I almost feel like this book and Kresley Cole's new one Sweet Ruin mixed up their titles. I think if they switched, the titles would make more sense for each of their books.

Overall, I loved it. If you are a fan of the BDB series, you should like this one. I wouldn’t suggest anyone to start here though. There is too much you would miss out in backstory. However, I don’t think you would be lost. I just think you would get more out of if you started with BDB first.

Audio Review

Jim Frangione is a wonderful narrator. However, he mysteriously changed the name Zex (John Matthew’s shellian) to pronouncing it as Hex. I’d forgotten he did that in the last book and found myself wonder who Hex’s was until John Matthew’s name was mentioned. Maybe she was always Hex in the written book. But as someone who has only listened, this was hard change. Plus, this book, Jim seemed not to differentiate the characters as much as he usually does with the inflections in his voice. There were a few parts, I couldn’t tell you who was speaking as there weren’t dialogue tags and no context clues to go off of. Oh well. Other than that, I still enjoyed the narration.

My Review

The story has some predictability because we know there is going to be a HEA. But in this case, I enjoyed the ride.

There were twist in the story I didn’t see coming and others I did. All I know, is I don’t think I’ve enjoyed one of the books in the “series” since Trey as much until this one.

Ally’s family almost ran away with the story and I can’t wait to read more about them.

It was hot, smoking hot. And I can’t wait for her to write more books no matter what series it is.

My Review

So, the good and the not so good.

The story starts off great. I found it to be as intriguing as all the other books in the series. But then I think the story strayed away from the couple and onto the bigger picture. And having the bigger picture is awesome, one of the things I like most about this series.

However, I think that we didn’t get as much from the couple because as a couple they were all that interesting. There wasn’t the push and pull and that’s not always necessary. But it was like they fit right away and what was there to talk about after. And Ethan was a favorite of mine. So I hoped for more maybe.

That’s the main reason why I didn’t give it perfect marks, but the story flowed smoothly. And we got to see as usual some of the other couples come into action. Which is great, because I’ve loved each of them.

I will still eat this series up like a kid with Halloween candy. It’s one of my favorites and very well written. I can’t wait for the next book in the series.

Kristen Potter does an excellent job with narration. I can’t imagine anyone else reading the series.

My Review

I have to say I’m never completely disappointed with a Molly Harper book. I know what I’m getting too. Light reads, with feisty heroines and guys that try to keep up. Although the formula is somewhat the same, no two books are ever alike.

However, in this one, the author surprises us by creating a love triangle. I can’t quite recall her ever doing that before. And both guys are swoon worthy, so please Ms. Harper, give that other guy a HEA.

This book had some of the magic the first book in the Jane Jameson series had as the heroine stumbled around in her new “undead” life. I really liked this book a lot and it was refreshing to read after so many serious books.

I must also say, I miss the wolf pack in Alaska. Will we ever get more of those books???

Audio Review

Amanda Ronconi is brilliant as always, spot on at bring the humor on the page to life.

Overall, I recommend this author and her series. Start off with Jane Jameson series with book number one. I dare you not to laugh your ass off.

My Review

This isn’t my first alien novel by this author and I’m glad she’s jumped back in with another new sexy alien novel.

For all the fans of X-files, V, Roswell, this book is probably for you. Also, if you’ve grown out of YA and loved the Lux series by Jennifer Armentrout, you’re going to love this.

Talk about Alpha male, that’s what you have in Sabin. Add a dash of feisty female and you have a mix that will make you laugh and squirm (sexy time) in all the best ways. It also has action. These aliens aren’t sitting around doing nothing. They are busy saving the universe too.

I can’t say too much because I hate giving spoilers when it’s not necessary. This read will deliver. You will be entertained. And you’ll probably want to pick up other of her sexy alien books when you’re done.

Overall, this is a solid read and I totally recommend.

My Review

So, I’m going to say this again in case you haven’t already heard this from me. The ending sucked eggs. And even though I can understand why a 16 yr old girl can be stupid and uncaring (okay, I’m being dramatic), but it was how callously she thought after the event that turned my stomach. As if that person didn’t matter at all. And that's the reason for my emotional rating.

Up until that point, I knew how it was going to end in exactly something like that way. I could have even been okay with her tormented feelings.  But it was like a switch went off after the event. She walks in and her thoughts turn cold. Granted, that’s a dragon for you. But not her, she was supposed to be different. She was the exception. But the author made fools of us all. She isn’t different.

And frankly, I have a hard time swallowing reading the next book. The only thing that makes me want to read is the title of the next book. And that means, we will learn the back story to one of the characters. And I feel that character deserves for his story to be told. I’m curious though. Will this series go on and on? Or is this a set trilogy?

One more thing. I forgot to mention this in my Talon review. This book/series has a Divergent feel taking in the paranormal angle and not the dystopian view. We have factions. Instead of the person choosing their own path, this time the “governing body” chooses for you. And that is the conflict. Divergent meant that you were more than just one facet. Here in this story, dragons shouldn’t feel at all, but supposedly they do Riley and Ember at least. Anyway, I could go on. About how this girl thinks her brother would sympathize with her, but instead sympathizes with the “governing body”.  She learns how to fight and be a warrior. Etc. Etc. You get my point.

Audio Review

Caitlin Davies did a great job narrating Ember’s parts. MacLeod Andrews, Chris Patton, and newly added Tristan Morris also did great jobs narrating Garret, Riley, Dante.

My Review 

Okay, let’s get it straight. It was obvious from the very beginning what the arc of this book was going to be. It was almost too obvious that I hoped she would pull a fast one on me and take the story in a different direction.

Well, she didn’t unfortunately. However knowing exactly how things would play out, I still wanted to listen. Therefore, I’ve given it four stars instead of three. And I also want to listen to the next book which comes out soon, so that’s a plus.

I do like this story better than the Fey book which annoyed me because the author sent in my opinion the wrong message to the young adult readers. In the story it came down to one of the persons in the relationship having to make the decision to ultimately and fundamental change who they were down to their (race/ethnicity) DNA in order to be with the other person. And for that reason, I couldn’t finish the series. It’s the wrong message to send that you can only be with someone if you are the same. Yes, I got the storyline, but there were other ways to handle the situation than making the person change their “race”.

Also unfortunately, I can see how this story might go down the same path and I’m hoping it doesn’t. I think it’s a decent start. So far however, if you like YA paranormal stories about dragon shifters, you might try Firelight by Sophia Jordan. It’s not as predictable in book one and a great series. The series is also complete, so you won’t have to wait for each book.

Overall, I’m cautiously optimistic about this series. It’s one of two very predictable books I read back to back this week. :/

My Review

 

I was super excited to read another book in this series. I’ve come to really love this author. While I wasn’t thrilled with book two in the series, I’m glad I continued on because books three and four have delivered.

I’m not sure anything can top book one, but this book comes at a close second. I love Marcus. Honestly, I would have loved more about his friendship with Trick, but fan fiction is running in my head. And Roni was pretty great with her humors one liners.

I definitely felt I got my money’s worth in entertainment with this book. It has sexy time along with several laughs. After two urban fantasy series installment disappoints (wow, mouthful), I’m extremely pleased this book delivered.

If you haven’t read this series, I totally recommend it. If you don’t like shifter stories, you might want to give this one a try. Out of all the shifter series I’ve read, this is lighter on the aspects of shifter’s change due to the world building. What you have are hot sexy alpha males, who love to protect their mates. Gotta love that.

Overall, this is a winner in my book.

My Review

 

It’s hard for author’s when they write something new. Often times they are judged simply because they aren’t writing a carbon copy of what they successfully done in the past. Not me. I didn’t come into this looking for Cat & Bones with different names. I also didn’t read the blurb to hard. I like to be surprised.

Unfortunately, there was nothing beautiful about this story. It lacked everything from a cohesive storyline, memorable characters and a plot that stood the test of time.

At the start of the gate, I was excited. What’s not to love about Demon’s and Angels. And the world building in this story was probably the only thing that kept me from DNF (did not finish) and sticking to the end. However, I found the descriptions of the “demon world” to be lacking. Most of the times, I couldn’t picture where I was. Then we were told that no sun existed in these realms. Yet sometimes things were described as if light existed. And then others, we were reminded of the darkness.

As confusing as that was, there were the inconsistencies. For example, in the start of the story when Ivy meets Adrian (and I won’t say how, why, or what happened) he makes a statement. “If they (demons) have her, then she’s dead.” Several chapters later, Adrian says to Ivy about this same her, “If they have her, she’s probably the best treated human in the demon realm.” Fine, he contradicted himself. There could be reasons. Yet, Ivy doesn’t call him on it. She doesn’t ask why he changed his story. Therefore, I’m left to believe the author has made a plot mistake that wasn’t caught by beta readers or an editor. There are other instances of this which lead me to believe the later.

Then there is Ivy herself. Besides being a carbon cut out of the author’s other heroines, this one is looney. Or at least she comes off as one. I’ll just say this, at some point in the story, Adrian has made his intentions towards Ivy clear. Basically, they aren’t together. They haven’t even kissed or come close to it. So when Ivy finds Adrian with someone else, she gives him the third degree about him being with someone else and not choosing her. Trust me when I say, that it isn’t a cute jealousy as no chemistry between the two has come through the pages as of yet. We know she finds him attractive. So her jealous rant comes off as crazy.

I could go on and on as the plot kinds of muddles through weakly. And without memorable characters you care about and rooting for, it all just fizzles.

Although I can’t recommend this series at this time, I will read the next book. Like I said, the world building is interesting and I love this author. She deserves a second chance. But if book two sucks, I will give up on this series. I gave up on Richelle Mead’s spin off from VA for being ultra-boring as much as I loved all her other series and books adult and YA alike.

Audio Review

Tavia Gilbert is an excellent narrator. Unfortunately, because she narrated all the books and series by this author, Ivy comes off as a carbon copy of Cat/Lelia/etc (all the other female character’s this author has written.) It’s possible a fresh voice might have helped this book. Though I fear nothing could except if it was rewritten.

My book boyfriend is Adrian and only because I had to choose.
