Kiss the Dead (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter #21) by Laurell K. Hamilton

This is an adult urban fantasy novel (Rated NC-17 for the sexiness of it all)

4.5 out of 5

Book Summary

When a fifteen-year-old girl is abducted by vampires, it’s up to U.S. Marshal Anita Blake to find her. And when she does, she’s faced with something she’s never seen before: a terrifyingly ordinary group of people—kids, grandparents, soccer moms—all recently turned and willing to die to avoid serving a master. And where there’s one martyr, there will be more…

But even vampires have monsters that they’re afraid of. And Anita is one of them…

My Review

There are those that hate Anita Blake. And well, that is your choice. I happen to like the series. I even like the series from the beginning when I didn’t like Anita Blake.

Recap, the first five or six book are more traditional urban fantasy with a bit of romance. But Anita in those books is so full of herself that she actually got on my nerves. She was an ultra feminist who thought he a guy opened a door for her, that meant they somehow thought she was weak in her mind. She also had been a born again virgin because of a previous bad relationship and didn’t give men the time of day. That in itself isn’t a bad thing, but she thought she was better than anyone else and it annoying. Add that with the ultra feminist and it made for a character I didn’t like. Thank goodness for the good writing and storyline that kept me going until things took a hard turn I never expected.

I hadn’t read the authors other series at this point so when things went zero to sixty with no warning, I had to wonder if someone else starting writing the series. Nonetheless, I can’t say that I was bothered by the all of a sudden abundance sex and lots of hot guys. Going forward, these books seem to alternate with little to no sex and a lot of sex. But I enjoy both styles. I really like the books Edward is in, because he’s such an awesome character and I enjoy the books he’s not with all the yummy guys.

So this book was a mix of crime and sex. The first half of the book is more crime and the second half is more sex. So you are kind of left wondering a little about the crime in the end but overall satisfied with it all. I really liked this one with no real complaints except some of my favs weren’t in the story. I won’t spoil it by saying who.

AUDIO REVIEW

Kimberly Alexis is amazing. She does a superb job in this series and I can’t imagine anyone else reading this. They tried that and it failed. She made listening to this story so enjoyable to listen to. My only tiny complaint was that she changed Micah’s voice. I haven’t listened in a while but his having an Irish sounding accent was a little weird considering he’s a hometown boy. But he still didn’t sound like any of the others so it wasn’t that bad.

My book boyfriend is Nicky, Micah, Nathaniel (who grew on me this book), Sin (who also grew on me), Dev and of course Jean Claude.  (See below which guys I did pics of)

My pic is of…..

Nicky...

My Micah....

  2. I don't think I have any spoilers in the review. But anyways, yes, I really like the Micah. I had a Nathaniel but I decided to save him for the next book. Still on the hunt for the perfect Jean-Claude, I'm not sure there is a living one, lol.
