Author Interview

1. What was your inspiration for the story?

Watching the TV show Dark Angel and the film Equilibrium - I loved the dystopian worlds presented in those two stories. This inspired a short story idea of my own for a noir anthology. That short story evolved pretty quickly into a full length novel. The noir aspect was inspired by Raymond Chandler, an author I was introduced during a course in cinema at university. A whole bunch of different kind of just melded together at the right time to produce my story.

2. Have you always wanted to be a writer?

I think I've always been a writer but I only wanted to be a writer about two years ago. Until then I thought I wanted to be a music researcher. But nothing makes me as happy as writing does and I'm glad I'm turning a mere hobby into something more.

3. Will you be releasing any books in the near future 2012/2013?

Yes, I have a YA science fiction novel called 'Obscura Burning' (Etopia Press) scheduled for released in December this year. I've also just signed with an agent and we'll be going on submission with my YA cyberpunk novel pretty soon.

4. What is your next project?

I'm working on two YA novels, one is pure science fiction set on Callisto and the other is a zombie retelling of the Jack Frost myth.

5. What is the one thing you want people to know about you?

Tough question. Perhaps that I'll always be a musician first. Music is my foundation and I try to involve music in all my stories. I can't write without music playing, and it's to music that I turn whenever I need some inspiration.
