(Four Skinwalker Hearts)
Book Summary
First in a brand new series from the author of the Rogue Mage novels
Jane Yellowrock is a supernatural skinwalker--one sharing her body with the soul of a mountain lion. When the rogue-vampire hunter is hired to hunt down a particularly nasty vamp, Jane is drawn into the steamy New Orleans vampire society where she learns the ins-and-outs of the "sane" vampire culture, more about her own Cherokee heritage, and we are drawn into a rousing, fast-paced thriller.

My Review
I’ve come across this series a few times. This time, audible
had a sale. So reluctantly after looking over reviews, I picked it up.
Honestly, I thought it was a mistake when I first started and not for the
narration. I just couldn’t get into the story even though the world building
wasn’t hard to understand.
Somehow I made it through to the end and was eager to begin
the next book. So surprise, surprise.
I liked Jane Yellowrock. She’s a non-nonsense female with
nothing to prove. She doesn’t need a man but she isn’t a woman’s lib type girl
either. She’s just comfortable in her own skin. I also enjoyed the Cherokee
elements. This reminded me of another UF, but I’ll talk about that comparison
in a review of the later books in the series.
There were many men in this series. And honestly none of
them really stick out as great. I wasn’t a fan of Joe/Rick. I thought he was
too much a womanizer and couldn’t be trusted. Leo was just too obvious. And
Leo, being French and a vampire, “master of the city”, reminds me yet of
another series. Again, this will come of later in a review of another book in
the series. So I’ll leave that alone for now.
Overall, there is enough in this series to keep me interest
and curious enough to move onto the next book.
Audio Review
Khristine Hvam does an excellent job with the narration.
My book boyfriend, I’m going with Bruiser, the best of the
lot.
